led mod question for the pro's

ok, i dont have a pic of the piece im talking about, but its under the trunk and on top of the rear bumper, its a stright piece of plastic that fits right under the trunk and you can pop it off the bumper.( if you close the trunk, its the little piece that runs along the bottom of it, it sits on the rear bumper) anyone know the piece im talking about? *can anyone run like 15-20 leds in there so only when you hit the brake,* the leds come on and then i can get rid of the 3rd brake light and i can fiberglass a piece to cover that up. like the harley ford trucks have a led strip under their tail gates, every see em? im just thinking outside the box and trying to get a little more 'custom'

Eeeew. So you want lights like a truck?...a Ford truck? Nice car man, dont ruin it. What about using the stock 3rd brake light from the factory spoiler and mounting it inside the car at the top of the rear glass? Kinda like a BMW.

Umm, the point of the third brakelight is for increased visibility. If you remove the stock third brake light and just have a thin strip of leds running along the bottom of the trunk, that would take away any benefit the 3rd brakelight would have as it moves it below the sightline and below the stock tail lights. There's a reason that all cars have the third brakelight located above the standard brakelights.. because it is more visible, especially to lifted trucks and large SUV's.. The other guys idea of placing it on the top part of the rear window is better and more functional..

^^yea, i know, good points i guess. but see, if i was to think like that, my max would be just another max. and if people cant see my tails ( just my tails ) at night and they rearend me, thats their fault and thats that. but trust me, im sure a line of l e d s under my trunk would be brighter than my 3rd brake light. so anyone have an idea about this? anyone know the piece im talking about?

i imagine that would be pretty easy to do if you can get the wiring there. making the led bar would be simple

i understand your idea, but i'm going to have to say no man. don't ruin the sleek look of your car, esp. now with the air ride. i would definitely wire an LED bar to the stock third brake light to the top of your rear window and call it a day.

after i left this thread i thought about it. i would just unplug the 3rd brake light and test to see if you like the LED bar before you remove the 3rd light completely.

you might do it and then decide it looks lame.

my other idea was to put the bar on the top or bottom of the read window inside.
