Paint flakes off easily

I have a 1999 maxima gle and I have noticed that the smallest things will make the paint come off. I barely tapped something with my car today doing less than 5 mph and a ton of paint came off. I used to drive a 2001 accord and even when it was totalled in a bad wreck hardly any paint came off. With my maxima I also have spots where the paint is fading and looks to be bubbling off. Is there anything I can do to help solidify this paint? Also are there any good chain body shops that can touch up paint?

ARe you the first owner? maybe your car was in a minor accident the previous owner tried to fix himself and went to like Maaco ( a paint shop here in IL) and got it painted for cheap. Are there certain spots it happens on? Front/rear side?

I am not the first owner there was 1 owner previously. The paint seems weak all around. There are a few small scrapes and the paint around the door is where it is bubbling. It is also faded on the black frame that is next to the window but only on part of it and not in any kind of pattern.

Sounds like it was repainted at one point in its life.

It sounds like a cheap paint job.

repaint the whole thing...it'll be worth it if the car is still very good. At least you can start from fresh

I carfaxed the car and everything checked out. I know that carfax does not catch everything though. How much would a good paint job cost? I am not sure if it is worth it or if I should just get it touched up.

I have a 99 GLE as well, and my paint is pretty good. Certainly much much better than the Scion tC I have. My car is Sterling Grey, if that matters.

Someone sprayed over the top of the old paint. No good. It comes off again exactly as you describe. I know; I tried that myself once, I was in a hurry. I regretted it. Repaint . . . sorry...
