One org member at our last dyno meet had it. He opened the cut-out via a switch and dyno'd. No gains, you are just eliminating all that back pressure that hurts performance. And the noise is just annoying.

I wouldn't waste my time on that.

it's more beneficial when you're boosted. the maxima doesnt have a very restrictive exhaust (other than y pipe), so the gains on an NA application would be minimal.

I have the qtp 3" cutout http://www.quicktimeperformance.com/
When we dynoed my car at JWT the difference was 21 HP more when the cutout was opened!

You guys should not make assertions about mods unless you know for sure what you are talking about. There is way too much misinformation on these forums.

That's most likely because you are boosted though. You know.

not true. You loose low end when your exhaust is too big and you lose velocity. I gained 6hp and 2 ft-lbs on the dyno with zero loss of low end. That was on the 3.0 engine. It was over 10hp with the 3.5 engine.

It still amazes me that people respond to threads when they have no idea what they are talking about.

I don't see the difference between having an exhaust that is too big and having a cutout. When the cut-out opens, its virtually like having a bigger exhaust or having nothing from the down-pipe back. The exhaust gases exits out thru the cut-out eliminating exhaust back pressure which is also why your exhaust is now louder.

I like what their website said:

Each car differs on the horsepower/torque gain. It all depends on your car and what modifications you have. You can gain as little as 5 horsepower on a car that already has a high flow exhaust system to a car that needs no back pressure and gain as much as 20-30hp. It all depends on your car. But it is a guarantee that you will get all the volume you want!

They guarantee the noise volume.

You'll make me a believe when I see your dynograph.

You can't see the difference between a bigger exhaust, and one that is the same size and just more free flowing? With the cutout that is the correct size, you maintain exhaust stream velocity which does not hurt low end. A 3 inch exhaust would hurt you because it kills the velocity, which does hurt low end. You need to do a little research to fully understand it.

I have 3 dyno graphs posted on my cardomain page. None is a direct comparison between open and closed cutout, but I have tried it every time I have dynoed and I always make more power.

I'll chime in here even though i have no cutout. Everytime i go to the drag strip i undo my cat and run open y-pipe my time always improve by 2 tenths.
I have thought about getting a test pipe but i don't like how long they take to open and close. It's not a big deal for me to unbolt the cat either.
