Why do I keep throwing a CEL?

I was getting the CEL for Park/Neutral Saftey Switch and Ignition Inhibitor. Also, my reverse lights never engage when in reverse.

So, I replaced the saftey switch (brand new oem) and it's still throwing the same codes after reseting it. I reset with a OB2 tool and with the screw, same results, code comes up after a mile of driving.

I even had my mechanic "borrow" the part from another maxima and it still dosent work!! What can I do?

This is getting frustrating.

Im a 95 auto.

lol why do you keep getting the code? its because u didn't fix it. Let me ask you a question, when you found that code did you just throw a new switch at it?

ever check the wiring to the switch ? I don't know too much on this, but there should be a reverse light switch, i think its on the trans itself. take a look at that as well. half the time you get a code it would be just the switch itself but thats only half the time. sensors fail just as much as wirings.

Checked all the wiring, and replaced the switch on the trans.. still no go.. I can only follow the wires back to far.

what is the exact fault for it Pxxxx ? Maybe your looking at it a wrong way.

does the P/N switch do its job? by that i mean can you put your can in drive and start up the car ? Or does it have to be in P or N . And also so now your reverse light works as well right?

Reverse lights still arent work. I dont have the OB2 tool on me anymore, so the codes I pulled through the self diagnostic.

I havent tried starting it in drive, wouldnt that ruin the starter? But im sure it will.

NO! only way to ruin a starter is to try to start the car when its already started.

Starting the car in drive does no harm. Well maybe your foot should be on the brakes THEN it would cause no harm.
