LED Conversion
LED Conversion
Just wondering what bulbs I need to use when I do my instrument cluster LED conversion. I know there are lots of posts but I cant seem to find them. I dont want to have to resize the holes or anything like that and dont want the light to fade in some areas and not in others. Can you plz help me out? not sure what color to do yet. Blue or Red/Orange? 97 SE
for a true led conversion, do what i did. buy a bunch of 3 or 5 mm led's from ebay. sand down the led to get better light dispersion, than wire up a 150 ohm resistor is series to 3 led's. led's have horrible light angles so in order to avoid hotspots, i put in 8 led's for the speedo in a circle, 8 for the tach, 2 for the coolant and 2 for the fuel gauge. use some silicone to stick them onto the cluster and u got a nice led cluster.
If you want a plug in play setup, you can buy led #194 bulb off of eBay as well and replace your stock bulbs with those. No resizing necessary unless you end up buying like the 6led's in 1 bulb type deal.
Hey 200kMax, do you have any pictures of that setup? I am really interested on how they look.

i dont have one of the process doing it, but i do have a nite pic which i will post up... (eventually)
i had a few hotspots in the process of doing it, but the most important thing to remember is to sand down the led on all ends, and also make sure the led is not pointing straight at the cluster. it has to point at an angle. once u have the angle. set it in w/ silicone.
total time it took me for this job was > 4 hours working mostly at nite over the course of a few days.
