Clock Spring replacement (steering wheel/air bag)?
Who has done this? Do you have any tips? I took my car to a shop to have it aligned and get them to look at why the horn is not working ever since the lined it up last time (they had to take the wheel off in order to get the wheel straight, after putting on the proper lengenth tie rod end). The guy told me that my clock spring is not functioning as it should. He also told me this is the reason that my cruise control is not working (this has not worked since I have had the car and I could not figure out what it was). Anyway the dealership told me that my car calls for a clock spring that was on put in 1995's with production dates of 2/94-10/94....is this information correct (I trust my parts guy, but I just want to make sure none of the other fourth gen clock springs will work). Any advice on doing this job? I have never taken the wheel off before. I have read that you are supposed to un hook the battery, and unhook the air bag and let the car sit for a little while before you try anything. Am I going to need a steering wheel puller? I already bought the tamper proof torx bits to take the air bag out. Any advice or helpful tools would be appreciated. I plan on reading my Haynes manual when I get home but I would like to hear some first hand experience. Thanks.
