Optimum shifting points on 5sp (rpm)?

2 months ago, I bought a 5sp 98 SE. It is still stock and haven't yet been able to find torque and power curves; I'm used to driving VTEC engines and am tempted to rev my Max close to redline for the best accel. I get the feeling that's not the best method. My feeling is that around 5800 rpm, power starts to drop and it's time to shift gears (for 1st, 2nd and 3rd). How do you get best accels, 5000, 6000, 6300 rpm shift?

According to my dyno and track testing, these are the best shift points for my car with the current mods. Your car should be pretty much the same.
as indicated by the tach:
1-2 6500-6600
2-3 6200
3-4 6000
4-5 5800 (never tried this one)
As you can see, the rpms you shift at drop a couple 200 rpms each time. This is because of torque multiplication. As the car accelerates in each gear, torque goes down. You want to be entering right where peak torque crosses the hp curve. Give it a shot.

1-2 3200
2-3 usually skip 3rd unless I'm trying to beat traffic
2-4 3500
4-5 2300
If I'm stopped on a downgrade I usually start in 2nd. Once you add a Y-pipe and B-pipe you've got a lot more torque to use down low and starting in 2nd is really easy.
