Starting problems...........

ok my maxima has a hard time starting up on a cold start. but after it warms it a little bit, i can turn the car off, and itll start again just fine. it used to have a hard time starting no matter what before i changed out the thermostat. but after the car starts, it runs perfectly fine, and idles perfect. so i have no idea what it can be. anyone have any ideas?

Don't see what the thermostat would have to do with starting, makes no sense at all . . . placebo effect?
Anyway. Cold start. So many factors .. what do you mean by 'cold'? 'Cold' for me at the moment is an ambient temp of 23C, that's as cold as it gets this time of year. Possible factors:
1. Battery is nearing the end of its life, lower cranking speed/spark voltage after standing all night.
2. Using an oil that's too heavy, causing lower cranking speeds when cold. Use the recommended 10/30.
3. Condensation ocurring overnight - only if you're in an exceptionally humid area.

Or maybe the cat is sleeping on the air intake...

cold start, is when the engine is fully cooled at the current temp outside. the battery is new. the oil should be 10w-30. and im in texas so its not too terrible humid here, its pretty dang dry.

and i didnt think the thermo would have any affect on starting either, definitely wasnt a placebo effect. it was as clear as day and night.

the starter is fine, this would be my third starter ive tried. once the car is at full operating temp, itll start up again just fine. i just tried grounding the starter with a 8gauge wire to the chasis where the neg wire attaches from the battery to the chasis and still no luck.
