99 SE-L Misfiring

Yeah yeah, if you are going to b i t c h about searching the threads, do move on.

Okay so I originally tried the whole 99'ers only cleaning the contacts on all of the coil packs, and it didn't help my issue... anyway, I went to Las Vegas this past weekend, I came back and any time I step on the accelerator, I get very bad misfiring. My check engine flashed several times, and after it flashing a few times, the check engine light stayed on... so I went to Autozone, and it gave me "Cylinder 1 Misfire.." so I figured I'd go ahead and replace that spark plug.... replaced it and it still gave me the same ****... so the next day I replace all of them, while again checking and cleaning the terminals on all the coilpacks, and it's still misfiring....

It's so irritating not knowing why the hell it's doing it, but it's only upon acceleration.. any other suggestions? If I use an OHM meter to check the coilpacks, I've heard that sometimes the problem is intermittent, so it could give me good results but still be bad...

If you have some beneficial info / advice about this problem, by all means reply and let me know.

Bad coil pack. Impossible to check with ohmmeter because they only fail when under a load. You could just change the one but you're better off doing them all $$$.

99's are notorious for bad coil packs.
Replace all of them and your car should feel like you just got it tuned up.

I had the same problem with my car, changed the coilpacks and I had the same problem. I ended up changing my injectors and that fixed the problem. Hopefully that helps you a little, good luck.

Does ANYBODY have any random coilpacks lying around their house? Where's the cheapest place to get them? How about injectors--> how much do they run?

Oh- and I went to Autozone and they told me the 99 have the same coilpacks as the 95-98, I know that's not a fact.

I dont really remember which brand is prefered, but I think the earlier 4th gens had hanshin coilpacks, while the newer 4th gens had mitsubishi. Finding Hanshins are harder than the mitsubishis because most dealerships carry mitsubishi's since they work for all 4th gens. If you check the classifieds you might find some of the parts.

You can get the coils at Autozone at $65 each. They are in a duralast box but it says hanshin right on the coil. I just bought all 6 three wks ago at Autozone. They are the cheapest there. I also have a 99 and these coils worked fine. Car idles and runs a lot better.

So can I use 95-98 coils? Say if I bought them used? Or are 99s different?

i would get 97-98 which are hanshin. Stay away from another pair of 99's. I'm having a problem which seems to be the coils. I've found 97 coils w/ 120k fairly cheap so i will be putting those in soon.

I've got a 95 GLE that just started idling/running very rough, but the only code from the ECM is a 0304 (Knock-sensor). But I'm thinking that this is a ghost code because I just replaced the knock sensor and it's still showing a 0304 code.

Since for 95 only had OBD-I, does it not register mis-firing?

To replace all of the coil packs, is pricey. Anyone have suggestions on the best way to isolate which coil pack may have died?

Thanks,
Scott

nah it registers misfiring. mine is misfiring as we speak, and im getting a code. 95 GLE. the code is 0605. i had the same problem as the guy who started this thread.

i find it pretty capricious for you guys to just assume coil packs, when it could be a coil pack OR injector. i recently checked the resistance of the injector of the cylinder in question, and it was dead. the other injectors registered resistance.

thanks to guys on here you might end up buying a coil pack for no reason. check the resisitance of the injector in question first. THEN look to coil pack.
