Random engine shutdown.

I'm driving to Taco Bell, and 2 blocks away from home, I come around a turn, then all of the sudden my engine shuts off. No odd noises or anything, just happens as if I had turned the key off. All electrical was functioning properly, stereo kept playing, lights stayed on, but no engine.

I put it into neutral, tried cranking it while rolling, nothing. Tried again. Nothing.

Pulled into a lot (i <3 momentum), Get out, open the hood to see if battery is disconnected....Nothing looks out of place from my 2 minute overview. Get back in the car, crank it again, it cranks.....sputter real quick like it had been flooded, and fires up.

Anyone have any clue what this could have been? It drove perfectly fine for the rest of the trip.

Im guessing the sputtering upon starting was from the fuel pump running after the engine had stopped.... Possibly a problem with spark?

I had the exact same problem just last week. it happened after I took a 300 mile trip from boston to new york. thank god it didn't happen on the highway. I got the fuel pump replaced...by the dealer!...so far my car hasn't crapped up on me yet...so I guess that has to be the problem.

Obviously when the car realised you were going to Taco Hell it decided to do its best to prevent you from dying of clogged arteries. You should thank it, and put some injector cleaner in the tank as a reward.

Check your vacuum hoses. One of the hoses, if disconnected or broken etc. can cause your engine to randomly shut off. I ran into that problem when i was installing an intake out of PVC pipe.

if it was fuel it would ahve hesitate, sputtered, something before dying not just shut off. Sounds electrical.
