I'd say 99 but what is the difference between the coilpacks on a 99 and a 98 that makes the 99's so bad?

 

.. coilpacks on '98 for the most part are completely fine and our ECU's can actually be re-flashed, although someone said they reflash '99s now.. dunno how credible that is though.

 

It's all about maintaince, miles, mods. The original differeces are minor compared to how and what people put in them. But I'm for '96! I own one.

 

I had to replace coilpack on my 99.

 

I do know that I30's earlier than 1998 had auto tranny problems -- I've heard this from three different mechanics, and also experienced it, first-hand, when test-driving.
