Max went out of ? gear ? twice
Hi Everyone,
I recently ran in to this problem with the max (AUTO 99). Its only happened twice and after the second time, I think it may need some looking into.
Description of the problem:
I had slowed down to take a right turn and immediately after the turn I came to a full stop to allow another car get out of the way. At this time the damn car runs like its on NEUTRAL. It started rolling back slowly, and it wasn't responding to throttle. I didn't press the pedal down a lot, just a little and it wasn't responsive.
I had to run through the gears, P-R-N-D and then settled down on the gear select "2" and the car worked like normal. RPMs were above 600 from what I saw. I will be pulling out the data recorder from the carin a bit to see if i can find out the RPMs and TPS/IAC data.
The first time this happened, I was taking a left turn from a complete stop. I floored the max and pulled away and came to a immediate stop at light in about 400 ft. So from turn to stop was just 400ft and this happened. I had to hold the brake and shift to get back into a gear to prevent me from rolling back. The slope was not more than 18 degrees. Both times, the car didn't stall or shut down. It was fine except for the problem described.
Anyone know what could be wrong. Both these malfunctions happened 10 days apart from one another. Nothing wrong otherwise.
I cleaned the TB and checked the IACV but haven't cleaned it. I flushed the tranny fluid 2 weeks before and filled with amsoil ATF. The tranny pan didn't have any unwelcome metal shavings, just the regular fine powerder like shavings on the magnets. Tranny fluid also looked clean after ~30k.
Edit: 3 weeks ago I changed the spark plugs from platinum to v-power coppers and I have no codes.

Well from what I've read flushing the tranny fluid will cause problems with the tranny after a certain mileage. Even if you didn't notice anything out of the ordinary in the pan i would bet your tranny is on it's way out.

its been 6 months and after a lot of checking, I finally decided to go to the dealership.
Apparently I was low on tranny fluid; 1.5 to 2.5 quarts. They filled in whatever stuff they usually do. Its been 10 days and after a lot driving, the car is working like normal. I never thought about checking the fluid since there was no way I could have screwed up filling her.
When I did the tranny flush change, I added 0.5 quarts more fluid than i drained out and that was 10.5 quarts or so. I have no idea how it could be low, and no leaks anywhere.
edit: just thought i would let ya'll know.
