advice please on a system idea ...

ok well basically I have a jvc cd/dvd player and it only has 1 preamp output which is currently being used by a 4 channel alpine which powers my speakers/ rainbow components ....

before I bought the cd/dvd player with 1 preamp, I had decided that I probably wouldnt want subs in the future(smart on my part, now I do want subs) ...

well I wanna add a 2 channel amp and a sub box ... do I have any options ? ... I know the basics when it comes to systems... im not sure exactly what speaker terminals are but I think I have them on my current amp, could these be used ? ... is there any kind of device that can be attached to my headunit that will allow me to power another amp ..anything else I havent thought of ?..ideas?..thanks guys !

Your not totally stuck. Well first, are you going to run the 2 channel on the subs? Well you could go this route: Since you only have 1 preout on your head unit, get yourself a mono amp for the subs. Specifically, get a mono amp with preamp outputs. I know most rockford amps have em', but even the kenwood mono amp I have has the preamp output. This feature lets you connect multiple amps by using just one patch cable connected to the head unit (the signal can then be transferred from one amp, to another). Directly connect the mono amp to the head unit, and then just connect that amp to your 4 channel using the mono amps preamp output, and there ya go. (note: you'll also have to get a distribution block to provide power to the 2nd amp, along some wire to ground it)

The signal will go through both amps, providing all of your speakers with music, both bass and clarity.

Or, if your 4 channel amp already has the pass-through outputs, just flip the order of your amps around, and just get a 2 channel amp for the subs.

I personally recommend the polk db212-2 sub/box combo. It is the BEST box ever premade in my opinion, and it looks awsome in my trunk. I use a Kenwood mono amp that overpowers them a little but they still handle it.
the box and amp also go well with my brushed aluminum dash kit! : )
Everything cost me like $600 from crutchfield, then another $50 for the amp kit. You'll need to save some money for good vibration deadner. I got Tsunami Silencer for $70 from circuit city, but it's definately not the greatest stuff since I can still hear some rattle. I would recommend Second Skin damplifier. It has awsome reviews and it's dirt cheap, too.

Also, it is my advise not to go really cheap on the sub and amp because a sound system is a big "investment" and you have to listen to it every day.
