Hi:

I'm thinking on getting some H&Rs on my max, but I'm afraid the front lip will be scraping all over the place. How many of you guys are running H&Rs with the stillen front lip? are any of you having any problems with the car scraping?

Thanks!

just be carefull........ your lip will hit a curb if you pull up to a stop with a curb in front but you should be fine over speed bumps. (go slow) when parking you have to have your car stick out a little so you can insure yourself of not hitting anything up front (Ex. bump stops)

You guys are making it sound like the 1.3-1.4 inch drop that the H&Rs give you is like a world of difference from stock height. Is it?? Or could it be that H&R and body kits makes you have to watch your "curbside manner" so to speak??

I've ordered H&Rs, but I have no body kit, so I'm curious.

it is a world of difference from stock height even with the H&Rs..... you have to be careful everywhere...as long as you are aware you will be fine....

I really want to get the H&Rs, they look so sweet, and everybody says they ride great. Just that I'm very hesitant because where I live (Tijuana, Mexico) there are many speed bumps and pot holes, I mean there are some streets around here that look like they are from Iraq or the moon.

Thanks wicked1044 for all the tips, and hey Ryan93SE your ride looks awesome with the H&Rs..... decisions... decisions, what to do???

Thanks everybody for replying!!!

my opinion

I have the H&R's with the front lip and I scrape a whole lot. Rarely is it so bad that my paint gets noticably jacked-up, but the bottom of the lip is almost scratched all around the lip. I paid $125 for the lip already painted (with 10% chipped) and decided to just use touch-up paint until I can get a hold of a good paint match. So far, the lip and paint has held up well.

H&Rs lower it like 1.5, but if you add a lip thats another 1.7in less ground clearance... hmmm in TJ? i suggest raising ur max... that place is horrible hahaha
even in Socal i'm seriously doubting whether i should get a lower lip... my '01 Grand Prix GT scrapes even stock on mall exits and stuff... it sucks...
think about it... i mean urethane can probabaly take it but ur paint wont and if urlike me ur heart couldnt take it... i'm split... i have no idea

If I'm gonna get just a 1.5"drop and I'm gonna be scraping, I don't know if your car will be able to move at all!!

drop?

sup, as someone said i have the stillen kit and the H&R springs. i actully took another coil off the springs and still don't have any problem. I usually back into parking spots because i can't pull all the way in but thats normal. as far as scraping if you go on an angle its pretty hard to hit. ive had the lip for about 4 months and don't have a mark on it.

i have the exact setup on my 96. H&R/tokicos with stillen front lip. YES i hit every so often. You just have to watch out for huge dips or holes in the street to avoid scraping. Ususally though im fine while driving on the street, its when i pull into a parking lot or a driveway that i bottom it out and scrape the $hit out of it. Just take those at an angle and youll be fine

Whoah! I see the difference. It is a whole lot different. Whenever I've seen dropped maximas I was paying attenion only to the wheel gap, and not so much looking around at the front lip and the whole lower body. I see that the difference is way more played out in the ground clearance. Thanks Ryan!

I have sprints and a front lip and really only have problems in a few places.. You just have to learn where to go.. what angle to go in at.. and where not to even attempt it.. Also parking where your wheels are next to a curb is more difficult because the lip sticks out and is more vunerable. This is where I scraped mine.. But some touch up paint and bam you can barely tell. Check out my sig.. thats the relation of lip to curb.

Ha! Looks like you have a suspension button that goes from AWD mode to pimp mode!

Your ride is awesome! The sterling mist, clear tails and corners, and those wheels are great match. That's one well dressed Max. Shoes, suit and tie all workin'

Sup Jose! Here's a pic of H&R+ Stillen Lip.
I had the same worry as you before I acquired the front spoiler. You just have to slow down and make 45 degree turns before pulling up on a curb (ie Gas station...etc.). The H&R drop isn't as low as Eibach or Sprint. I think you'll be ok.

You either:
a. Carpool (Guliani is breaking us into that habit early)
Or
b. Get coilovers and raise the car up.

PS- I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a better winter compared to last year's. Driving around on New Year's Eve this past winter w/ 30% treadlife on the stockers wasn't fun.

Thanks! 97MaxGurl

97MaxGurl: Damn you car looks so nice with that drop, I still haven't put any lowering springs on my car yet! I had the front lip installed and painted about four months ago and the paint already looks really bad , like I said, the roads down here are horrible, I think I'm going to get some coilovers, I'll just have to wait a little longer to save up for the cash .

carnal_c30: I'm sorry to hear about that, hope the damage wasn't that bad, and about the white paint, try and polish it out, and if you can't get it out that way try to wet sand it and then use a generous amount of polish, that should do the job Good luck!

Jaja that's what everybody thinks!! actually there are some places that are very ugly down here, and some other places that are very nice. I consider my self to be very privileged, because I live in one of the nicer places, with private security guards and an ocean view. Mexico is full of contrasts, in some parts of town you can see some really nice houses next to other ones that are barely standing up, it's some thing that you have to see for your self.
