Is "BOMZ Racing 3" inlet Cone Air Filter" any good?

This item sells on ebay very cheap compared to K&N filter kit. Do you know if it's any good? For $22 shipped I think it's a good deal and sure beats stock air intake. Any ideas?

It's cheap b/c it's a crappy filter, and the stock intake is better than this setup, this is known as a HAI=hot air intake, the stock sucks in cooler air comapared to this one which sucks in hot @$$ engine air. If you like the looks in your engine bay and a bad @$$ sounding car, get it. I have something like this and I love the sound and how it looks, but remember these make you lose some low-end torque.

As 99 said its actually not better than your stock intake. If you have extra performance upgrades then sure get it. It'll give a nice sound to the car. But otherwise it will only give sound and drain some of your low-end. Either go with a Place Racing or wait till you have more hp.

So, I may as well save some money and buy myself a K&N Cold Air Intake Kit to get some aditional HP on my bare stock 97 Max SE.

K&N Also makes a rectangualar filter that is designed to be a direct replacement for a stock filter. Even though it does not have as much surface area for filtering air compared to a cone shapped filter I think I will just lose < 1 HP and the growling sound.

Any ideas?

It's from a company called "Bomz Racing".

Think about that for a second.

If you want a CAI, get an eBay one and use the pipe but buy a good filter like K&N and put it on. I have the K&N panel filter (rectangular one) and it doesn't do crap. Here's an example of a CAI http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99...01066356QQrdZ1 just use the pipes and get a different cone filter.

It's not that bad it just wont give you any extra power. I dont thnk K&n makes a CAI for our car. Go with a place racing intake anways. It's the only true CAI.

The auction on ebay claims that I will gain 10-15 HP's from the cold air intake kit. Is this statistical or theoretical.

It's trying to sell it. It's a HAI basically, meaning its sucking hot air from the engine bay. To gain horsepower you need colder air in the intake. You will not gain anywhere near what they say. You'll lose low end power and maybe get a little high end power. That's it. It's really for the engine bay look and the sound, not the power.

The length and design of the intake are equally important.

If you want low-end grunt, you need a long intake tract so that you have a big column of air that can build good momentum.

If you want high-end power, you need a short intake tract to suck in as much as possible, as quickly as possible.

Either way, you want your intake tract to be as straight and smooth as possible. And of course, cold air helps everything.

BTW, the stock intake is NOT restrictive, and it certainly draws colder air than most systems you can buy.

I agree dOOdfOOd. Didnt think about the length before. good call. And yes, most of the intakes are worse than the stock intake.

So, by purchasing the el-cheapo CAI from Ebay I will actualy loose power becuase the kit sucks in more hot air and less cold air, right?

For $33 shipped I think it will do more good than harm to my aging 97 Max with 90k miles. I'll just save money for now and buy 02-03 fully loaded max SE (hopefuly soon)

I have the bomz intake, and i thought the same about how much hot air was going into my engine. but on a 90 degree day in traffic cruising at about 60 mph the air intake temp was 82 degrees. so its not as hot as you think.

Your intake air temp was lower than ambient air temp?

Well yeah when you are moving the air temp is cooler because of air flow. But that tempature air would still do better on your stock intake at the point. If you have no other performance upgrades then the intake is still going to effect your power.
