are automatic & manual starter's interchangable?

I am thinking of grabbing a used starter off of a low mileage automatic 4th gen for my 5 speed 4th gen. Is this a good idea? Are they interchangable?

Also the automatic maxima has been sitting for at least 2 years...is there anything to worry about other than dried out grease?

The most common grease used by you guys is lithium grease, correct?
Thanks

yes, they are interchangeable. I used wolf's head red grease, it works fine.
