Really weird but right around 40 mph, my car begins to have a sputter/vibration sound coming from the shocks. would this mean i have to replace the whole shocks? could it be mounts? or is it something else. . it lasts for 2 or 3 seconds until i speed up past 40mph or slow down. but right at 40 its sounds like a quick vibration in the struts. any ideas?

 

probably the transmission? Not sure I get shuddering at like 25 lasts for like 2 seconds and I'm pretty sure its my tranny

 

Usually the tranny. Try to see if it is shifting at the same time it is shuttering. If it is the tranny, probably need a rebuild.

 

UM have you're tires re-balanced. Why do you guys skip the obvious. If this doesn't resolve it then worry about the trans etc.

 

He said after 40 mph it stops. My experience with unbalanced tires is that it keeps getting worse the faster you go, but may be worth the try.

 

Everytime I've had bad balance on tires it would be bad at a specific rate of speed then go away past that or below that. Seems a$$backwards of what your used to.

 

he didnt say it stops...he said he starts having vibrations around 40mph.....

Get your tires rebalanced also see if your rims have been damaged cause of a pothole or crack in the rim or something....sometimes its not visible but its there. rotate your tires and see if it gets better...

If all fails then look at something else.
