My yellow retrofitted fog lights: (How to w/PICS)

These are my retrofitted 98 fogs. I used the halogen foglight projectors from a set of 2004 headlights. THEY ARE NOT HID. They are just a halogen projector. They use the same bulbs as 95-96 fogs and 97-99 fogs which are H3 bulbs. I took the projectors out of the 04's headlights and decided to chop my 98 fog housings up.

The foglight housings have a yellow 3m film on the outer glass and I'm using H3 luminics yellow bulbs for a rich, deep yellow. They look as bright/brighter than yellow capsules or a lexus.

I cut through the backs of my 98 fog housings with a dremel. (total pain in the ***) On the the 97-99 fog housings. There is a thick piece of plastic and 2 layers of metal within the housings. I them put the projectors into them and sealed them with clear high-temp silicone and aluminum tape. It was hard to get the aim of them right on but they still look very bright.

These pictures were taken at about 4:00 on a somewhat sunny day to show how bright they are.

They may look ugly from the back but they get the job done. I somewhat sealed them with silicone and aluminum tape. They are not completely sealed however no moisture or water gets in them.

I think they look as bright and as yellow as a lexus.
Heres some farther away pictures.

Sheesh. Where were these pics when I asked for them weeks ago? Either way, great work. They look awesome. They look as though they may even be a tad brighter than mine. Mine are much smaller units, though. I take it you're still running the stock wiring?

I just finished my own retro a couple days ago. I went a slightly different route than you, though. I blacked-out my housings and used Hella H3 yellow-lensed (the actual lense is yellow) housings from an Audi. I have a custom harness going in tommorrow and plan to remove the fluting (lines) from the lenses eventually to improve the cutoff.

See sig

yes, I forgot to mention...I kept the wiring from the 98 fogs and used them on the 04 projectors...this made it a lot more simple because I didnt have to take anyting to wire them....it was basically a plug and play kind of installation.

The weird thing about projectors in these housings is that they are decieving at night. Even with my housing blacked out, and the fact that they are projectors, they still get filled up with a little bit of yellow light at night. You can still definitely tell the projector is there (it's an extremely bright point of light) but there's like light "leakage" into the housing (and yes, that happens even if the projectors are sealed up 100%). Take my sig pic as an example.

No one really knows what they even look like yet, though. He also did way more than just make his lenses yellow.

I love your car, btw

That would be a good idea. H7 has some very nice output. Personally I went with H3 to keep things simple and cheap (I got my projectors for $20). I have a feeling 96blackmaxSE had similar reasons.

Yeah I stayed with H3 basically for ease of installation and low cost.

nice work!

is it illegal to have yellow fogs? lol

I have to hack into my housing assemblies for my 96 fog light, to clean out the moisture.
is the dremel the only way to get inside?

Pretty much. Some claim you can heat the lense off like you can with headlights and stuff, but I have yet to see proof of that.

Previous owner used them just fine. My passenger's side has been under just as much use and isn't peeling either
