Ballpark Estimate???

Can someone give me a general idea of how much it would cost to get a new transmission and have it installed? Not for my car actually. But someone with a 5-spd looking for a new 5-spd.

Im gonna say easily over a grand. You gotta figure out the cost of a new or used tranny...plus labor. I cant give exact figures though, sorry.

It all depends on the cost of the tranny, whether the clutch is replaced, etc.

The cheapest scenario is if your friend has another tranny, and they pay a shop to swap it out. Probably 4-8hrs labor. Whether that extra tranny is worth a crap is another matter entirely. Personally I wouldn't do that job without the tranny having been rebuilt. Also, a truly new tranny from Nissan would be a horrendously expensive way to go ($2k? $3k?) compared to a rebuild tranny (<$1k).

I agree with your statement....

I would suggest getting it rebuilt... no reason to trash a transmission that might just have a bad syncro *or whatever the case is*

There's a couple $600-$700 units out on car-parts so maybe $1000 with labor. My VLSD rebuild & install cost $900 total but I had a good 5sp to start with.

you can call Datrannyman aka Marvin, he rebuilds our transmission and sells them for a great price. Tell him Marlon sent you.

A decent shop should take about 2hrs to install a tranny. ~$200-$400 in labor. So just aroung or )hopefully) under the grand mark.
