Ugh tranny again

A few weeks ago my speedometer went out. I found that the sensor was broken in 2, and managed to fish the broken piece of the speedo sensor out of the tranny while it was all in the car. I put in a new sensor, and the speedometer didn't start working, and I've been contemplating what to do next.

Meanwhile the tranny was still busy - yesterday I got some rough shifts - I drained the oil last night and found bits of the plastic speedometer gear in the oil, which clearly were the cause of the intermittent shifting trouble. It seemed all better afterward, but today it's even worse. I'm sure that now there are even bigger pieces of plastic floating around.

Assuming I can get the car home, I'll be attempting to remove the differential and replacing the ground-up speedometer gear. Wish me luck - I'm going to try it with the tranny still in the car.

What a bummer. Is there a way to flush the tranny? It would be a PITA to keep filtering the flushing fluid and may end up as time consuming as dismantling.

That or just keep driving it in low for 500 miles til the cog's all ground up nice and fine.

Good luck whatever you do.

I could feel a pretty big chunk blocking the shifter mechanism. Unlike gear teeth, the shifter mechanism won't grind up anything.

Now I'm debating whether I should buy and install a new clutch to replace this shuddering ACT. I might as well drop it all the way and take care of that too. Anyone know if it's a bad thing to resurface a flywheel more than once? Should I pay for rebalancing?

Only a bad thing if it's below the turning spec. Oreilly's or wherever you go for flywheel resurfacing should have all the specs in a book or on the computer, and they should be checking that before resurfacing.
