OMG! I think something fell off my car...

Well I was on my way back home when I hear something hit under / the side (i'm not sure) of my car and I hear a "clang clang clang" my instinct told me something fell off my car, but my car didn't stall or anything it just kept going as if nothing happened, so I get home and inspect the engine...nothing missing as far as I know, and car starts up normal, enginewise car runs normal (for now...) so I check springs they're all fine then I check wheel lug nuts and center caps, they're all there, what ever hit my car left a small dent on the passenger side fender. I'm starting to think it was road debris that hit my car and nothing from my car since I can't feel anything wrong with it. And believe me I know when something falls off your car it lets you know QUICK...

No CEL light either...

So what do you guys think should I get it checked @ the shop or should I not worry about it since the car seems to be OK.

well if the dent is on the outside, chances are something didn't make it from the inside.

One thing to check would be the metal heat shield under the cat. But you said something hit your car...

yeah I checked that, still there...
I'm gonna go later tonight when traffic dies down to see if I can find whatever hit my car.

I heard something in the news a while back about a piece of metal stuck on a semi truck tire got loose and was thrown to a car beside it killing the driver in Jersey...

the reason I mention this is cuz I was running beside a large bus...

I wouldn't worry too much about it. If your car is running normally, then wait it out to see if anything changes. I would worry more about the dent. I hate dents! I have one on my passenger side, and I don't have a clue how it got there.

my mom's Kia used to rattle like no tomorrow. Then one day we went over a big bump, heard a clang and saw a piece of metal laying on the ground behind us. We drove on, without the attle, and car has been fine ever since. Tell me again, what's the point of the heatshields? I've removed all of mine, and have no ill effects.

uh.. to shield heat? hahha

not really sure why the ground needs a shield.. maybe to protect it from damage from debris and speed bumps? /talking out my ***

I passed by and saw what hit my car (still couldn't stop and pick it up! argh!!!) it was piece of steel construction rod about an inch in diameter...so unless there are actually construction rods in my car i'm home free...

I'm lucky the damn thing didn't punch a hole in my fender or blow my tires, etc...
