Lunch time delima(short story)

So its friday lunch time. I need to run to the bank to make a much needed deposit. I jump in my car and start cranking. the engine starts to crank but stops and all I hear is this vaccuum like sound. I Stop cranking and take out the key and the sound is still there. . . awww shhh_t. I put the key back in and try to start. . . nothing the same vacuum like sound is still going with the key in or out. I figured it was probably my starter, but damn why is it still spinning after the key is out?!

I run back into my job, fortunately we have a full ratchet set with every size, deep socket etc. I come back out with a 10mm, disconnect the battery and the vacuum like sound stops. I pull off the intake and remove the cable going to the starter. I put the battery cables back on and the noise wasnt there, so I know its my starter. I disconnected everything from the starter, I didnt unbolt it and take it out because that mother. . . was hot as the sun. Bolted everything back onto it, plus banged the starter and few times reassembled and put the batter terminals back on. Vacuum noise wasnt there. . . tried cranking and the car started.

Fortunately I have a lifetime warantee on my starter, that biitch is getting yanked out, and replaced.

Moral of the story: Keep a 10mm wrench in your car incase you need to disconnect the battery for whatever reason, and have a blunt object for tapping (I'd prefer beating) your starter

yeah, good idea to keep metric tools in your car. Had the same issue the other day. With no tools. Popped the hood and slammed it and it started.

Could you have pulled the starter relay or a fuse?

Don't have the schematic so I can't see if there is one.

I always keep a 10mm, 8mm, and 1/2" (for my non-OEM negative battery cable end) in my glovebox, along with a flathead screwdriver. Should probably throw a phillips in there as well...

I've been on my back all day and can tell you that the 10mm will only take the engine out.

If you wanna do the suspension you need a 19mm.

But then you probly wouldn't do suspension in the bank parking lot during lunch!

Had this happend to me 2 weeks ago. Went to remote start the car. When i went inside the car to put the key in the acc position i noticed it was off. Then there was a whirring noise coming from under the hood. Went to look and the starter was running at full speed. I quickly tried to look for some pliers in my car and i found one after 5 mins. Took out the neg battery cable and it stop. But everytime i would put the cable back on it would spin the starter. The starter smelled like the metal was melting off, it was HOTT!! Turned out it was some cable in the ignition switch harness was making contact with a metal under the steering wheel. I was finishing up installing the remote start portion of the alarm on that same day and i didn't put electrical tape on that cable that i cut (think it was the grn/blk cable). And to top it all off, i had to buy a new starter a week before because it gaved out. The thing wasn't putting out that much power to turn the flywheel. So i double checked all the cables from the remote start and the problem went away. Only now the starter doesn't sound strong after when this happened but oh well it's working. Hehe and what do you know, It happend to me on the bank's parking lot aswell.

no wires were touching, but you would thinking something would have to have been for it to keep getting power and spinning the gear.
