Oil on Spark Plug threads...Switch to Iridium?

I just swapped out my NGK platinums for some NGK iridiums...

Has anyone else used iridiums? What are your thoughts? It feels to me that I have less torque in the low end now that I have iridiums (vs. the platinum NGKs). I am considering going back to double platinum...

Also, I have read that oil on the threads can be caused by leaking valve seals. I am not sure how to replace these. Can anyone help?

From what I heard, Iridium is superior to Platinum for use in the spark plug in all attributes

Irridiums ARE the BEST! Longer service interval and a better performing plug. I have them and would never go back to platinum, unless I couldn;t afford the irridiums. I have the Denso brand

I said this before, the core on Denso Iridiums is COPPER. The tip is Iridium. Best of both worlds.

I just put in the NGK iridiums too, had the platinums before and i've noticed a big change thru out. The car idles better and is more responsive so personally i'd stay with the iridiums.

As for the oil on the threads its caused by leaking valve seals, havn't changed those on a max but different cars and usually u just unbolt the valve cover and the seals are on the inside and there rubber rings that sit at the bottom of the spark plug shaft thingie.( can't think of the right name for it) Hope this helps.

Anyone have a picture/writeup about changing the seals? Maybe even an explanation of how to remove the valve cover to get to the seals...???

I think I will give the Irids a little longer...

Your description parallels my experience. As I said before, I even feel like I LOST torque...

A few more things to check, I suppose...

I like coppers too. Cheap and perform just as good as the plats for a lot cheaper.

also valve seals on the oily sparks. the fsm can give you a good write up on getting the job done.

I'll check the FSM. Anybody done this recently? What kind of time commitment are we looking at (not a novice)? Tools needed?

The oil on the spark plugs is not caused by leaky valve seals. Its caused by leaky spark plug o rings in the valve cover.
