Replacing Clutch

Hey guys,

Now that I have done a whole bunch of stuff to my Maxima to get her running as good as possible again (K& N, knock sensor, spark plugs, coolant flush, oil change, etc.), I come to find out that its clutch replacement time!! Considering I drive the car rather hard and it is the original clutch w/ 140,000 miles, I would say the factory clutch has been good to me. I'm most likely going to replace it w/ another Nissan branded clutch, but I have heard something about these Nissan Blue? clutches that you do not want to get from Nissan. Did I make this up in my head, or is this definitely something I should avoid? Also, any idea what the ballpark would be on a clutch replacement from the stealership including parts, etc. Any input would be appreciated. Lastly, do you guys recommend some other clutch rather than the Nissan factory? It needs to be good for everyday driving, so some stage 2 ACT clutch isn't gonna cut it. Thanks in advance guys. (and gals)

I hear to not get Nissan Key Value. I hear that you can get the 5th gen clutch parts and they are better that the 4th gen parts. I just did mine with a friend and it took about 8-10 hrs. I got quoted $1000 from a transmission shop so I imagine a stealership would be about $2000. I will never go to the stealership unless I absolutely have to by the way. I got a clutch kit on eBay for $150 and paid my friend $200. Much better than the other prices. Good luck.

I may do it myself, it just all depends on what they quote me, because I don't have a lot of free time. When you say you got a clutch kit on eBay, what brand was it?

It was the exedy stage one. I know everybody on here is going to flame me now, but I got on exedy.com and verified that it was really an exedy. The site shows you how to tell if it is legit. Alot of them were knockoffs but this one seemed to be the real thing. I guess I still could've gotten a but I'm satisfied thus far.

I just received an Exedy from ebay yesterday. I haven't installed it yet, but I'm quite convinced the seller was good and the parts are genuine (genuine Exedy). If you're going to run stock power, an Exedy 'OEM' clutch is a good way to go, and certainly cheapest.
