no more 3rd gear :(

I was racing a corvette today(just for ****s and giggles) and I went to hit 3rd and it just ground forever. After the race I tried to get into 3rd shifting normally and it still wouldn't go. the only way I can sometimes get it in now is to shove the stick as hard as I can. Does it sound like I blew the synchros or is something else wrong? Its been hard to get into 3rd since I bought the car 25k miles ago. It has 140 k on it now.
what would you recommond I do? rebuild kit or junkyard tranny? how much do my options cost?

It could just be your throw out bearing which is bar of your clutch (sortof) if so not too bad, might as well do clutch at same time.. probably not worth it to rebuild if bad just buy used one.

Umm... well it sounds like your synchro's shot to me... if you declutched a little too quickly and tried to jam it into gear (especially for a really long time i.e. forever ) you could have probably finished it off. I'd just try to find a lightly used tranny, maybe LSD, and slap it in. But then again I'm not the most knowledgeable on the subject.

here is how to tell if it to bearing:

start the car and phsh the clutch peday a few times if you hear a metalic ticking sound when its on the floor its the t/o bearing.

if your having trouble getting into gears. its synchros. that means start looking for a new tranny

just drive carefull untill you have a spare.

This happened to my honda, it would only let me shift to 3rd if the engine was at lower than 3000rpm. I never had it fixed, just dealt with it.
