Next Mod help?

I just bought a ’96 maxima (std). Here is the engine mod list:

- TechnoSquare ECU
- K&N filter
- Modified Airbox – no Intake Resonator
- Budget 2.5" Y-Pipe
- 8-Gauge Grounding Kit

I’d like to get a little more power out of it without going NOS/Turbo/SC. This car is not going to the track and I’m looking for power along the entire curve, and I don’t want to spend huge $$$.

I’ve been reading threads and was thinking: MEVI (although I don’t like the low end loss), 00VI (if I can find someone to do it – over my head), UD pulley, CB exhaust.
I’m looking for some advice from members, as I can’t make up my mind from what I’ve read.

Thanks for the help you guys – and I apologize in advance for the newbie question…

id say mevi or 00vi if you want a pretty large power increase all along the power curve. id say get a cat back just for the sound, and it will also add a few horses.

thanks man... any take on MEVI or 00VI? MEVI seems easier but I'd hate to lose the low end power. You ever driven one?

I would do the 00VI in a second if I could find someone in the Spokane WA area or BC to do it for me.

hmm, im not sure what one is better. i havent ridden or driven either, ive just heard they both are pretty good.
i think most people would say that a 00VI is better, but harder to install.

I would get an MEVI if you're not mechanically inclined. The install is pretty straight forward and it really increases your high rpm power.

the mods u have now will compensate for the low end loss of the MEVI...00vi is a lil more work to get going but will yield a bit more gain overall

My good friend had a UO UDP on his '00 GLE and it was great, immediately went for a drive and it was a noticable change, other than that MEVI.. I just dont have the money or patience for the 00vi or anything that can wrong with it.

is it generally accepted that the 00VI causes a lot of problems down the road RE: cracking etc?

I haven't really heard of that yet... I have had mine on just over a year and my car sees a lot of hard dragstrip driving (if you can't tell by my sig.. lol)

The UDP is a small, easy to do mod and may show a few hp gain but you probably won't feel it on the butt dyno.

The 00VI is definitely better than the MEVI however if you think you could handle doing the MEVI yourself it is mostly a bolt on and much simpler than the 00VI so it might be a good compromise if you can't find someone local to do the 00VI. It will definitely give you top end you don't have now with the USIM. Without an ECU to compensate for the mid/low loss I wouldn't do it though, but it looks like you'll be reasonably ok there with the TS you already have, and if they can increase the rev limiter for you it would make it as good as a JWT.

After doing some reading on here before I put together that the air box "hack/mod" or any after market air intake are not as good as the stock. What do I know, My car is just pretty.

You'll need to buy more parts than are listed at this link.

^Check out the threads from the 5th Gen VI onto a 4TH gen section.
You should get a decent idea of what's involved.
