Too Much Oil

Just changed the oil in my 95 Max. I checked the dipstick and the oil level is about 1/2 an inch above the max line. Is this okay or should I drain some out?

Drain some out! When you overfill the engine, oil gets sucked into places that is should not go. Better to underfill than overfill!!

I shouldn't have to ask but you never know... did you turn the car off and let it sit for 10 minutes or so before checking? cause if not you will get readings like that with the correct amount of oil in there.

You would think alot of lube places or the dealers would be regularly over-filling. Is there any way to really tell if the engine has been getting the proper amount over time? Would it just be leaks?

I ask because I'm just wondering the severity of the damage that can be caused. I'm sure this happens to Maxima's (and other cars) all the time.
