well Stillens 1st gen y-pipe came out when no one had any maxima y-pipes...now they have some competition so its either discontinue or change it to cut cost

damnit to hell, the Y I just bought has the "bees." Does a sufficient amount of header wrap tone it down?

my warpspeed mandrel bent did not have the bees in the can noise, and the build quality was really good. Everything lined up good, no rattling, no noises under hard launching, overall im very happy with it, best $160 i spent on the car.

Embrace the bees.

My Warpspeed has none and I had VERY (a few days) quick service. It seems mine was a rare occurance probably due to new stock.

Also, Warpspeed has been through about 6-7 flex designs.

Well, I'm going to see if new exhaust hangers dont fix it.. Then, I'll move to header wrap and if that doesn't work I'm going to bust some skulls.

Just make sure your flex section is straight, that will eliminate sounds from the y-pipe.

Did you get it off the Budget Special that just ended? Makes me a bit nervous since I still have the Y-Pipe lying around waiting to be installed...

No mine is the more expensive one thats polished.. and honestly it's just the way they made the hanger for the cat IMO. I'm gonna put a jack under the cat and see what position is optimal for no bees.

The Shops around my area wanted around $150 for the job. You can probably find someone off this forum to do it for $75, maybe even less.

cattman is the best setup for exhaust for any maxima, but if its just for the Ypipe, u might as well go with Budget, they all pretty much give the same HP output, the Cattman just sounds better... I got a budget and its fine as it is

if a shop will install one, some wont because its considering tampering with emissions equipment (removing pre-cats) it shouldnt cost more then 75$. My freind had his installed for 75 CAD. Its pretty simple, the hardest part is getting the bolts off, seeing as most of them have been on through atleast 7 winters.

How are the power gains? Is there any noticeable loss of power in midrange punch?

Well, it feels like my low end died.. Yet that is to be expected, a loss of backpressure therefore lowering steady exhaust stream.

However the mid range saw gains from about 3k and up and VERY noticeable I might add, and the top end zOMFG, from 4k to about 5.8k it fawkin screams. I forgot the feeling since the last time.

My PRCAI is causing me a bit of loss at the top of the band too.. Perhaps for yielding the best gains I should just shift to mid-pipe setup in order to maximize power up top. Anyhow..

if this helps any.

i didnt really feel much of a loss at low rpm, but noticed a huge improvement after about 4K. I was amazed at how much of a difference just the y-pipe gave. Although i knew it would give big gains before hand.

I think I will do Cattman. Sounds like it is great quality and has no issue with bees sound.

I like the quiet stock tone for now on my Maxima. With stock muffler + Cattman Y pipe, sound should still be relatively quiet?

Quiet yes, but your muffler will sound like @ss.. See my clip in the exhaust sticky when I had my stock rear section, it was back-flowing and gargling.

damn....isn't there any setup which will keep my exhaust quiet and close to stock :P

I thought this was the quietest way to go?

Did you also have a Cattman and no exhaust leaks?

What exactly is the "bees in the can" sound? Do you hear it inside the car when driving? Reason I ask is I just installed a budget y pipe and now I have this vibration sound that sounds like bees in the can that I hear coming from the console area(below radio) and it sounds like it is inside the car.

My car is a 97 gle with the sliding storage area under the radio. I took the pens and crap out of it and held it tight and this seemed to muffle the vibration sound some.

What do you guys think?

Thx, Fro

I have a Warpspeed y-pipe. It is the superflo unfortunately but I am pleased with it. If you get a Warpspeed get it with the regular flex section. After tightening my superflo flex tighter it is quiet like stock but I experience more vibrations through the cabin during idle. During normal driving it is quiet until you get on it and there is a nice small rumble. I experienced better gas mileage that I could actually see with the install of an aftermarket y-pipe. I was impressed. Better performance and better gas mileage. And if you want to be more technical with it the aftermarket y pipe is even lighter than the stock y-pipe so you are getting weight savings as well. Youll see when you take off the old one and install the new one. I see this as an A++ MOD. If youve got the money go with Stillen, if you want a y-pipe but at a great price Id go Budget then Warpspeed in that order.

so would budget be consider better than warpspeed. Also, i am experiencing that rattle noise at idle too, I though/think its my resonator in my bpipe. might be broken/loose.

Also, should i go with WS bpipe or budget.

AND WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RESONATED AND NON RESONATED B PIPES ex: power, weight, noise. THANKS

I just bought headers and a y-pipe from Stone Mountain Racing off of eBay for 250+32 for shipping. I put them on this weekend. It sounds amazing with the stock muffler and I can feel the lower end torque the most. Next I'm going to by-pass the cat and resonator. I'm going to add a 90 degree pipe when it bends since the body support at the rear pinches the pipe. Anywayss I would recommend this pipe. It bolted right on. The headers were a pain in the nuts to put on. It took alllll weekend with airtools and a lift. Major pain. But, its worth it.

I heard about the Stone Racing, supposedly it's pretty good, and at 250 for headers AND a y-pipe, it's looking very good lol. Anyone else install them?

To get rid of the "bees in the noise can", you need to re-bolt your primary cat w/ new L hooks. The noise comes out because part of the y-pipe is really really close to the cat, so sometimes they bang. This is specifically true w/ the warpspeed y-pipe, but i've heard it from the budget as well. My noise was coming directly below the transmission and/or below the radion console.

For the record, I got this info quick fix from Dallas from Warpspeed.
