EVAP...is it important

EVAP...is it important

i got ecu code 1008 and that points to the evap. my question is, is this important? what could happen if i dont fix this problem?

your in IL, therefore you have emissions testing. you will fail emissions testing on a number of reason. #1 you have a CEL, #2 the reason that a evap system is there for mainly for emissions.

a evap fault happens mainly because there is a leak somewhere in the system. anywhere from you gas cap to your fuel tank, fuel lines , purge solienid , charoal cansiter.

what normal systems to is they pressurize the size and suck it down to 1 psi of vacuum and leave it be for 1 minute. if it holds the 1 psi then it passes if not obviously there is a leak. There are only a small number of things that could be bad. Mainly the things i list but some can get pricey.

The most obvious and cheapest thing to test is the gas cap. Make sure its on there tightly and clean it off. clear the code and drive it for about 2-3 days and see if that fault comes back. I dont know what a 1008 exactly means, loook it up and see if there is a proper troubleshooting diagram for you. Because i'm speaking of general cars, not nissan specfic.
