help, mt car suddenly died in traffic

After car stopped I turned key to restart but ignition was dead. The strange thing is that certain systems still had power;
-door safety lights
-overhead map lights and overhead passenger lights
-hazzard flashers
-headlights, foglights, instrument panel lights
-brake lights
-entrance buzzer
-OEM security system
And these all function without the ignition on!

As far as I can tell the rest of the electrical system is out
I always watch my gages and nothing was out of the ordinary.
I checked all fuses but not relays, and all fuses are good.
Does the ecu itself have a main fuse?
If there is a short in the main harness does this have a fuse?
Battery is not dead so alternator must be good. I'm totally stumped
Since electrical is down I can't use the scanner!
Anyone have any ideas??

Update sunday AM
Update,
There is power to the starter and alternator.
There is power to all main fuse and relay boxes under hood.

Well its obviously not your battery..Could be your fuel injectors that went..or ur pcv valve is clogged.

what do you mean by the igition is dead?

what happens when you turn the key? lights dim? clicking? etc

I believe there is no fuse inbetween the starter and the battery, but the switch is fused. Make sure you're getting 12 volts after the fuse. Otherwise it sounds like the starter.

I mean after my car shut off in traffic yesterday, when I turn the key everything is still dead except for the items I listed in the opening statement and they function independently of the ignition.

The key doesn't function at all!

There is power up to the starter and alternator, (I checked that)

The last problem turned out to be an emission hose that blew off and I had a hard time finding it!

There is no electrical to the system except what I mentioed at the top. How could the pcv valve or the injectors have anything to do with this??

Could be that ignition key assembly, just a stab in the dark. Not saying that you should do this but WHAT IF you hot wire the car, would it start?

I'll be honest, I don't want to cross any wires and deepen my problems because I'm not sure what I'm doing.

I do have a question though. Which harness wires at the key supply power to the ignition? I see at least 3 connectors going into the key module and how do you remove this to check it?

Is it a manual or automatic.

My ignition interlock switch on my clutch is getting a bit flaky.
Sometimes have to press the clutch to the floor a few times to get the switch to activate -- and then start the car.

Usually the ignition switch has a hard time surviving the heat. Its a $25 part from Nissan. Might be a good idea to change it. If your turning the key and getting nothing, its most likely that. Takes about 4 min to change out.

Believe me , it ain't easy!!

Thank you very much for the picture!
I forgot I have an ungo pro security system and all these extra wires threw me way off.
I'll have to label the connections and tomorrow i'll get a new switch and install it all the same way, what a nightmare of wires!
Thanks again, Ron

check your ignition relay. And your fuel rails are on the way.

I rented a subaru outback about a month ago. All the gauges would go to the "max" for a second or so as soon as I turned the ignition to on, right before starting it. Took me about 20 tries with a camera before I got that shot.
It looks pretty good though, right? Except for that yellow/orange light next to the "P" and all the "opened doors".
