Transmission Replacement?

I take my 97 SE into AAMCO because I notice the tranny fluid looks burnt thinking I need a flush (after reading tons of posts here I see no flush is a good flush). I also have problems that for some reason my AT won't shift into 2nd gear. Goes from 1 to 3. Also OD slips and can't be used

Recommendation: Rebuild Tranny. Cost $2325. I don't even have that much in this car

I didn't have any problem until I replaced the engine. Is there any way to tell if the engine and tranny came from the same car? Serial# or anything? I think they gave me a bad tranny off a wreck when they swapped my blown engine for a used one. Would it be easier for someone to change them out as a whole assembly?

Thanks.

car-part has them for cheaper, but I'm not sure I'd take tht option on a transmission (auto) go somewhere else because that's robbery.

Just get the tranny replaced with a used one. I did 3 years ago on my 95 5speed. No problems since.

Ok, Thanks. I understand I can get a used tranny much cheaper.

Does anyone have any idea if there are any numbers on the tranny case that correspond with the VIN or anything on the car? I'm going to try and make my case that the shop that changed my engine may have swapped to a bad tranny out of the car they took the engine from.

What about replacing the AT with a 5 speed. Can someone point me to how to make this happen? There is probably a link on this site.

I think the link is bad:

Can I convert a automatic to a 5-speed?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes.

Warning: This is not a weekend project! This involves time and money and someone who knows what they are doing!

Anyone else have any info on Tranny changeouts from the questions above? The 5 speed would be nice but sounds expensive and time consuming. I'm looking to find out if there is any way to prove a mated engine/tranny????
