I had it done

recently. I was told the book says 1.5 hours for installation.

At most shops that should equate to around $100ish for labor.

For me it wasn't worth the 5-6 hours of knuckle busting it would take me to change an alternator for the first time.

Cheers,

Wow $160 for the alty. and your saying about $100 for installation. That sounds cheaper than what i've heard before. I can handle $250.

I've done it on a camaro and a corsica, both chevy's. They were right on top of the engine and very easy to get to. In the stickies it talks about having to remove the dam radiator fan and what not.

You dont need to remove the radiator fan. Just remove the splash sheild from the under side of the car, and the drive belt. Then unbolt the ac compressor and move it out of the way. The alternator is right there for removeal after that.

even though it only takes a extra 10 mins or so to remove the fan you dont have to. it takes me about 1/2 hour to 45 mins to change it after some practice. dropping the compressor makes it sooo much easier

just find an alternator and starter rebuild company(not a store) and it'll be real cheap(oem). THey rebuild it and it cost me 120(return the old one) and install yourself....starters should go around $75(same concept as alt). Never pay over $100 for any of these

A starter can be rebuilt yourself. I did it no problem.

Thank's for the response man but i was asking the price on the install ONLY. How much did u pay just for the install, $100 seems to be the magic number. Man, thank everyone for the responses. I could of swore i read another thread talking about $800 or something for new alternator. Glad it's not that much.

It hasn't happened again,YET... but if it does i'll have it replaced.

$100 in NY. Remanufactured of course + old one.

Nissan charged me $270 for theirs.

Labor is about $100 or $75. I did mine myself.

Labor is about $100 or $75 at your average repair shop. Nissan charged me a whopping $225 for labor including tax finalizing the job at 500 bones w thier Nu Alt.

I did mine myself. First time ever doing some **** like that. took about 3hrs.

I just ordered an Autolite from advanced auto parts online for 180 with 60 core charge.

No tax or shipping cost. TRust me move tthat compressor out of the way and it only takes about a hour.

Its not that hard, but you shouldn't pay no more than 100 bucks for labor.

I just got a brand new one from Nissan.. apparently they don't carry rebuilt alternators anymore for the '98 4th Gen recall. procrastination FTW!

i did mine. aftermarket - $120. maybe 2 hours total. and yes, you can get a "beefier" one meaning it has more amps.

Fried the battery so i bought an alty and took it in. $160 for alty (after core refund). $160 to install alty and new belt. plus they had to drain my antifreeze and refill it.

Paid $320: New alternator (installed) new belt (installed) engine coolant drained and refilled.

Alternator:$160 after core refund
Belt,coolant,installation:$160

My mechanic said he had to refill the coolant because the hose had to be removed and it looked like it probably did. He also said i should replace the belt because it's old.
