1k for cat conv.to motor?

i just came from speedy to have my exhaust check. They found out the flex pipe after converter is rotten(hole) on the joint . they told me that it need replacement from the coverter all the way to the motor because the flex pipe comes only on a assembly which included three cat. converters which will cost $1,000.Do we really have 3 cat converter for max 95 with cali.emission? Can we just buy the flex pipe before the cat converter? Is the cost justified? i never heard a car with 3 converter?Maybe I,m wrong .. thanks

2 of them are called pre-cats. Get a y-pipe from budget and find a cat somewhere and save yourself some money and increase HP at the same time.

Don't fall for that, its a scam, they are trying to get more money out of you. If you don't want to get an after market y pipe, you can find one on here or on ebay in decent shape for a lot cheaper. Or you can just go to another shop that will fix the flex pipe for you.

Aftermarket ypipe appox: $200
New cat appox: $100 - $200

That is now where near a $1000 job even with labor, labor should be no more than $100/hr and that is on the expensive side.

Sounds like all you need is a new y-pipe.. 1.) Stop going to that exhaust shop.

In the mean time get pics of the exactly where the hole is, if its just the flex section of the y-pipe it would cost about $200-3$00 parts and labor.
