Car won't start - weird issue (Pls HELP)

Hello All,

I drove around running errands for most of the day. Came home & just tried to start the car to go to work.

Nothing happens when I turn the key.
Battery is good, fuses are good, all the controls on the dash light up, everything is normal until I try to start the car. It doesn't try to turn, NOTHING. I tried moving the gears from P to N (sometimes it happened like this & that helped), but not this time.

Any ideas?

- Jay

I had a problem like that, it ended up being one of the fusible links near the battery, pull that fuse box cover and make sure all of those are good.

Try wiggling the key when you turn it to on, your ignition switch may be on its way out too.

your starter could be completely shott... remove it, buy the brushes and just replace the brushes in the starter and you should be good as new.

It's a 98 with 79K

I'm suspecting it might be the starter. For the past 5-6 days, the car struggled to start, sometimes it needed a few tries.

I wonder how much they're going to charge me this time (I live in Eastern Europe and I swear everything's 200% more expensive than it is in the states)

Starters are very easy to change yourself. See the writeup on motorvate.ca

Man...I hope you fix it but I just wanted to say that I wish I lived in Poland (I'm ukrainian born - lived there until I moved here at 3). I would love to have a Max somewhat modded and be able to take it to the German Autobahns. Or through some of the Ukrainian/Polish country. That would be so nice...anyway...like everyone else...try the starter. I had the same problem, but it was a combination of the starter, crankshaft sensor, and fuel pump. Mine started out somewhat sluggish and then got worse aswell.

Yes, it's quite fun to drive around a car that you rarely see on the roads here. I've only seen 2 other maximas (US Spec) and both were driven by older dudes, no mods.

Yes, I hit it with a hammer & it started up

Now I know it's the starter.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
