Should i goto another dealership or is this a good price, sounds expensive to me, said like 90$ for an additional key and like 50$ to program. Is there a tutorial for like programming keys so it doesent set off the imobilizer?

I think you can go to some private locksmiths and they can do it for much cheaper, with built in chip. I saw one advertised at my local home depot at the key stand

you can buy the keys much cheaper some places online, but there is not much of a way to get around the reprogramming

you'll need to go to a dealer, try other dealers to see if they are cheaper.

I called a guy today actually.. weird this should come up. I am adding an alarm/remote start to mine, and have to add a transponder. Anyway... back to it, I called a local locksmith... key and all was $65.00 with the chip and programmed.

Screw a $3 key. I'd rather have a $100 key that is needed to start the car, That plus a good alarm system will make your car have to steal . . . the parts on it is another story but atleast they cant drive away in it.

yeah the last time I checked the most commonly stolen cars were Hondas and Toyotas. Particularly the civic, accord, camry and maybe avalon, but w/e ppl steal everything haha.

yeah true, but it seems like most thiefs just like to steal stuff out of the maxima and then just leave it somewhere, engine, drivetrain and chassis intact. It's a little bit strange.. but yeah I see your point.

I had a locksmith cut mine for 75. The local nissan dealer wanted to charge 150. I wouldnt let anyone but a locksmith cut a key with a transponder on it. The kid manning the key machine at home depot is not going to care if he messes it up.

my keys are fine, i just need to replace the base part of it that holds on to the key chain and has the nissan emblem. Each one of the two keys I have ripped and won't hold onto a key chain. This is annoying as hell, anyone had to deal with this?

Yep, when I bought my 99 one of the keys had a broken top like that. It's stupid there's no metal reinforcement inside the plastic. Well, I just lost my primary set of keys this weekend so I have to find a way to get a cheap replacement.

Well I've been reading threads and someone said $30 for a dealer to program a blank, and you can get a generic blank for $20 on eBay. Every dealer is different, though. But yeah, it sucks that these chipped keys cost so much. If they put a transponder in them, shouldn't there be a way to locate them if you lose them???
