inatake or y pipe?

well after doing a bunch of 'cosmetic' mods, ive decided to start modding for performance and was wondering what you guys thought i should get first a y pipe or an intake. for the y pipes i was looking to get either the warpspeed or the budget since i dont have the money to get the more expensive cattman or stillen and i was lookin at the frankencar intake since the PR intakes arent made anymore. im sure you guys are tired of hearing about all of the y pipe and intake threads but i havent really found a thread that addresses this question exactly.

I'd say actually GAIN power and get a Y-pipe. BTW intakes are so cheap, might as well get one on eBay.

Buy a y pipe, any brand is fine. Then depending on your style mod the stock air box, get a WAI, or CAI. those range from free to $50ish.

I got a budget Y-pipe and felt the power immediatley, just got a stillen intake and it's cool, I hear the engine a little more and feel a little eztra boost in the middle gears from the intake so I would definatley go for the y-pipe first...

Don't expect a ton of "performance" from the intake, or any at all for that matter, it just makes the engine sound cool past 3k rpms (in my experience)

Also, I didn't really like what the y-pipe did for the sound of my car, like it being louder and just a tad more ricey, but it was definitely worth the extra horses. So take the engine sound into consideration if you care about that.

intake is no power. Dyno proven. Just added sound, which btw, the added sound is air turbulance, a bad thing. The stock intake is pretty well designed.

Now, on the other hand, WSP y-pipe is awesome, I've had mine for over a year now, and I love it! Nice power, better gas mileage.

No comparison...y-pipe. Intake does nothing for power.

Glad to hear about that wpsd discount. Had forgotten about it in the past months! Cant wait to order one and redo my exhaust.

Thats fine, yet almost every thread I read the guys are saying that their intakes don't do anything but add sound. Maybe a few hp gains up top. Just repeating what I've read.

quite honestly, do intake and exhaust at the same time. cause if you put one without the other you wont be gaining much. what i mean is that say u throw on an intake...you wont be gaining anything cause you wont beable to push all the extra air out your stock pipes. and you wouldnt be gaining much by doing just pipes cause you still have the same amount of air flow.

but if i had to choose one before the other...ide go y-pipe first

oh and for all you "intake does nothing for power" people....if you read what i just wrote above maybe you'll figure out that intakes do do something for power when you get new/bigger exhaust pipes (it does very little though...maybe 5-10hp)

Any mech. you know that do exhaust in warwick?I'm palnning to have my headers ,y pipe and cat change with estimated labor of $175. All rotten and with a hole on flex pipe. It's become louder everyday esp going to work at 6:00am.I'm sure the whole neighborhood is getting mad at me . Anybody can suggest where I can buy the whole thing(headers,y,cat) in one place with a decent price(brand and performance not that important) ,maybe I can get a discount.Mine is 95 and I'm not going to spend more than $500-600 for the whole thing exluding labor.I intended to hold on to my max for another 2 yrs.Maybe.. thanks

im pretty sure that you wont be able to get all of that for only 500-600$, considering the cattman headers are well over that alone. the warpspeed y pipe is only 199$ shipped however.

I agree. If you're only willing to drop 500-600 you're not going to get what you want. You may need to look into that.
