I'm trying to break loose the crank pulley bolt, and it's not moving at all...

i have the car in 5th and a friend stepping on the brakes...

I used an air compressor with an impact wrench at 135psi, and it did not move it a single bit

I used a breaker bar, and it did not move the bolt a single bit.

What the hell do i have to do to get this thing loose??? please respond asap, i need to do this immediatly

 

get urself a 3 foot pipe.... (the universal tool)

 

Get yourself a impact wrench rated at a higher ft-tq. I read another thread not really related to the pulley but to a bolt for the cam shaft. I think he ended up using an impact gun of 550 ft-tq to get that thing off. So keep on trying.

 

put the wheels on the car and lower the car. That way it's not on a jack or jack stands or anything. Put the braker bar on the bolt and have tha bar touch the ground. Now go inside and turn the key to c rank the car over a little bit. Do not let the car start though. This should break the bolt loose.

 

If you cannot break it loose with the breaker bar do as fanaticrockford said. Many have done it this way. The engine cranking has plenty of torque to break loose the crank bolt. 2-3 cranks should do it.

It turns clockwise.


Thanks for the replies. I took my weight lifting bar and attached it to my breaker bar, and the bolt came off...so basically my breaker bar was like 8 feet in total.

The UDP installation was VERY easy. Tomorrow im putting the alternator belt on (no a/c, no p/s) and i'll post a little UDP review in this thread if anyone is interested.

I just changed my crank pulley too. It was a pain in the b. to get the bolt off but even more annoying was loosening/removing the power steering belt.

 

My shop air is 165 PSI and my impact gun produces 600ft/lbs.
That bolt doesn't stand a chance..

 

impact that sucka with a ton of wd-40 on it. and keep flicking the forward and reverse buttons. it will break loose then

 

well 8ft breaker bar FTW unless you have a shop wrench like njmax haha..

 

wish i had one of those....everything would be so much faster and easier!


About the pulley...i did not really feel anything different at all, seems to be pretty much like stock, but the unorthodox site says the ECU has to learn the new settings so it will take 5-7 days.

 

You do not need a couple of days for the ECU to learn anything, what your feeling now is basicly it. You wont feel much more from just the pulley.
Its frees up power, but nothing major.
It isnt completely useless though. You can tell that obviuosly just by comparing the weight of the UR UDP to the OEM.
Its a mod that goes hand in hand with others.

 

i had the same issue when i did mine then i did what fanaticrockford said... i can't believe i let that pulley sit in my car over a year before i did it!
