Odometer Stopped Working

My odometer has stopped working but my speedometer still works. Is this a problem inside the actual gauge cluster or is it something to do with the actual speedometer cable? I think it is probably the cluster since the speedometer works. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Yeah, the odometer is electrically controlled in the cluster. If it stop working, I would assume it's probably the cluster. If you can, see if you can swap it with someone with the same year Max. If it works, then you know your cluster is bad. Also, it could be a speed sensor related problem, but I doubt it.

Well if its anything like my issue, the oddometer will sit at 139,999. If thats the case just leave it be for a while and it eventually comes back on. Id say this has happened about 4 times in the life that Ive owned the car (135,000 - 182,000 kms) Id say that it "sticks" for about 1000 kms or so and then it starts working again. Sorry I dont have a fix for ya, but I amagine that it involves removing and possibly replacing the cluster. Im not ready to take that all apart until some of the gauge lights go out and I have to replace them. So good luck either way

its a common problem with 95-96s, I had mine go out and bought a used cluster off an org memeber, and had the dealership put the correct milege on the new cluster

Bservice; mine started off doing that. It would also make a ticking noise but now it has completely stopped moving.

For anybody wondering I have the analog odometer not a digital.

i have the same problem with mine - 113k miles or so on the clock. it stops working, then starts again for a little, and then stops again. new cluster is needed to correct the issue.

I would leave it just as it is. The only problem is knowing when to get an Oil change.

I am sure every couple of months or something should be just fine for a oil change. Leave it broken, and fix upon selling.

You might as well fix it, the miles you put on before you sell the car isn't going to make a difference. 4th gen's value has already gone to ****
