Cattman CAT?
Cattman CAT?
Has anyone bought this??? Am I wasting my coin??? I just bought a warpseed Y pipe, and I am buying everything else from Cattman. But what about this
Other than buying the Cattman y-pipe instead of the Warpspeed version (or putting on a set of Cattman headers, which include their own y-pipe) the only other exhaust part you could replace would be the catalytic converter. The Cattman FastCat we developed is the only cat available for the Maxima that does 2 critical things – 1) it makes power (most do not), and 2) its approved for street use by the US EPA (the only all-metal cat of its kind that has that approval). Price is $240, including the installation kit.

How do you know if it is ineffective? I am kinda green at cars in general here. I just read what you guys write and hope your not just BSing. My car IS driven in the winter and it has 211,000 KM on it, so it has been around the block. Will my stock one last untill 400,000KM? Because thats my goal.
The stock cat is already a relatively high-flow design. That's why people say that a new high-flow cat isn't really worth the money unless you don't pass emissions or have some pretty heavy engine mods.
I bought one of those, because I was getting a cat-back from Cattman, and my stock cat was pretty much useless. It was rusted to hell and back again and would be impossible to work with. Since I knew I wanted to replace every other part of the exhaust, it seemed silly to keep the ragged old stock cat and have everything around it be all nice and shiny and unrestrictive. I cant say that the stock cat is more or less restrictive because I don't have dyno figures - all I have to go on is Brian Catts himself. But, I'm glad I got it, and the Cattman cat-back, because my car sounds zomgamaznig. I plan on getting the headers/y-pipe for a complete exhaust.
cheers
EDIT: something to keep in mind, for 95-96 4th gens; the rear Oxygen sensor's stock location is directly in the cat. The Cattman FastCat does not have a bung for an Oxy sensor. Cattman's FastCat and cat-back was designed for 97-99 4th gens and the B-pipe has a bung for a 97-99 Oxy sensor very close to the cat. The 97-99 Oxy sensor is a physically larger sensor than the 95-96. I have been unable to find out if they are the same internals, or if a 95-96 ECU will read a 97-99 Rear Oxy sensor correctly.(i'm a bit hesitant to try it, myself) As of now I have a 97-99 oxy sensor plugging the hole, and a 95-96 sensor plugged in and zip-tied to the underside of the car. I get CEL's for the rear oxy sensor every now and then, but it doesnt seem to adversely affect driving operation.
cheers
