Frankencar Intake

I've been thinking about getting a Frankencar Intake for my 97 SE for awhile now. Anybody tried thier intakes before? If not this, what is the best intake performance wise?

I have tried it.

You'll be lucky to get in contact with them (FC)

Get a JWT/Stillen type POP.

If you want an FC style, just go on eBay and get one for much cheaper!

true enough.. with the Blue Tube, to those of you who know what I mean (PR), I gained TQ at lower RPM's and it doesn't feel like lost anything especially in the winter.

Oh, I guess you could replace that hose with your black stock one to the IAVC, not sure it will fit. It's very easy to put one on, takes 30 minutes tops.

Are you talking about the wire harness for the MAF adapter?

Just buy a short ram intake from ebay for 30 bucks. Youll need to buy two rubber hoses for those things on the side of the pipe not really sure wht they are called. Its really easy to install and it sounds great!

i got an ebay one that i mentioned in my post above.

i think the stock hoses fit on though. although it does come with one hose which i think MAY be used to replace another stock hose.

Another intake thread...alright.

The best intake is the stock intake, if you wanna go the aftermarket route, get a CAI that goes into the fender. You'll have to drill a hole, but it's the best for our cars.

Right now I have a PR-style CAI tube. It feels great. You can either go on Ebay and search for Place Racing intake or goto an exhaust shop and have one made.

im pretty sure if you had read this thread completely you would have realized that the performance aspects have been discussed ad-nauseum and now ppl are just asking installation/fitment questions.

thanks tho.

too many ppl on these forums that think they are hot ****.

Actually, the intake that you are planning to get, makes you LOSE torque.
Don't believe me?

1) i knew that. but ive seen dynos with a WSP y pipe and pop charger, showed an increase. *motorvate* This is the setup i have.

so why dont you find me a dyno with ONLY a y pipe and intake that shows a loss. Im not gonna go into details about how this isnt a world where everything can work together seamlessly. You are assuming that having those other exhaust mods IS WITHOUT A DOUBT synergistic with a midpipe. maybe they are antagonistic? understand?

2) im not racing anyone, as i stated before i want it for the sound. (here come comments about removing the resonator, hacking the air box)

3) everyone's a pundit on maxima.org.

find me the exact page where it specifies what exactly to do with the one piece of tubing you get with an ebay intake.

your post is pointless.

Only read the sentence about the motorvate dyno... I concur with him...
http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...3&postcount=33

About the midpipe.... Both Zack and myself have proven with dyno slips that on a FWD VQ (both 3.0 and 3.5) the straight pipe makes the curve slightly less smooth with humps and dips every now and again after 5k.

Although this is not necessarily a bad thing, since the Z33 VQ also shows the aforementioned features (read: humps/dips) because, yup, you guessed it, it has a straight pipe (AKA Z-pipe) IMO, it boosts power slightly from 5.5k+.

A POP charger gives good overall sound( a bit of a wail) a hacked airbox gives good low tone sound(refined IMO), and a POP/cone + straight pipe gives a very loud wail, too loud IMO (though I did like it at 1 point, but grew tired of it after awhile)

All the sounds above can be considered much less loud when using a MEVI (just thought I'd throw that out there)

What else do you want to know...

grab a bomz cold air... then just use the mid-pipe piece for a "hybrid" intake. nice good midrange where you would do most of your driving

get a cheap CAI off ebay, then use stock midpipe with the flex section to the maf, then elbow CAI piping into fender. Ill try to post a pic later, but I find this setup the best after switching from full cai, stock form, and midpipe style.

Not sure which one you're referring to... Post a pic please.

There are 3 hoses that belong in the midpipe.

1) IACV (large)
2) Small 1/8" vac hose
3) Vent hose from front VC(valve cover)

I see 3 small hose ends..and they're referred to in my earlier quote (see above)

If you're asking about the 2 large open ends, one goes to your MAF and the other to your TB..

I thought about doing that back in the day, but didn't.. so midpipe FTL.. haha. Then again the way I see the max has plenty of TQ so I was like egh we'll do the midpipe and see what happens. +/- I'm still happy.

so i installed the intake yesterday. was sort of a pain in the ***. i couldnt find the ****ing hose it came with. good thing i was in the pep boys parking lot, casue they happened to have some hose.

the problem is that the hose is the correct size for the crankcase...but its too small for the IACV, and i barely have it on there.

what size is the hose to the iacv?

initial impressions:

nice growl at WOT.
gas mileage is down...trip times are down.

aka i get places faster cause i wanna hear it. doh.

with the PR CAI I'm assuming it would not be good to have on during the rain or snow? I'd get it but I'm afriad with living in nebraska the rain and snow would kill me.
