Hood cracking across the centre

About half way down the hood, on each side rib, there is a dent which must be from the factory since they are symmetrical. Bad design and I've no idea why they are there. Of course that is the weakest point and sure enough, when I checked closely I saw that both mine already have cracks and when they go completely, I can see the whole hood cracking or deforming from one side of the car to the other.
I know about the CF replacements but at $350 + freight? Does anyone do a hood in fibreglass?

I think Custom Maxima does. They had a "blade" hood done in FG.

The "weak" points as you call them are there by design so the hood folds up in a predictable fashion during a frontal collision.

The intent is to absorb impact energy and prevent possible decapitation of the vehicle occupants.

I checked Custom Maxima. $650!
Before I paid that much, I would make a cement cast of my original hood and fab one up myself, probably cost no more than $60 of glass and resin, and I'd incorporate the original fittings and add a cool air scoop at the same time. Not exactly rocket science working in FG.

well, i wanted the carbon fiber one or even the FG one, but i'm scared that if i do get into an accident, that my head will be attached to my hood instead of my neck LOL...who knows, maybe with your mold it will still break were it's supposed to. I say break, cause it won't bend that's for sure

Too right. I had the latch fail once on a car with a FG hood. It ripped the hinges out and sailed over the roof and when it came down it shattered into pieces. If I ever make one I'll have to design a weakness into it. FG needs lots of reinforcement at the anchor points and I should think the same applies to CF. I bet the CF and FG hoods fail at the hinges and retaining pins. Presumably nobody uses struts with CF hoods. I wonder what the original hood weighs? Seems very heavy to me. Of course weight saving translates directly into fuel saving.
