Issues With Starting

For the past two years...my car has only started on the first try prob 50% of the time if its cold. No real prob if its warmed up....a few symptoms.

Normally i turn the key to the on/off position like 5 times to prime the fuel pump, and usually starts when i do that.

sometimes i will turn the key to the on position (windows can go down etc.) and i hear a groan coming from somewhere. it almost sounds like a brake groan. just a very low, quiet groan.

also, sometimes when it finally gets started, it sounds like a quaking duck for like 2 seconds but then that goes away too. and lately when i do get it started, i smell a lot of gas.

so tired of not being able to start on the first try. ideas? TB and IACV are clean

no cels. and i have an intermittent misfire. aka it will misfire out of nowhere for a day, then go away.

What year is your Max? If it cranks, probably the problem is not on the starter. Do you know if the electrical part of your ignition switch is still good?

I'm having a very similar problem, minus the duck.

Also, the groan sound that I used to hear when the key hit the On position is no longer there, sounds like the fuel pump quit priming..... I'm starting to think the fuel pump is failing. I guess I need to start replacing parts this weekend until it starts normally again...
