flywheel questions

hey im pullin the tranny tomrrow to replace my clutch and i figure i should resurface my flywheel cuz thats what everyone tells me, well i just called a transmission shop to get a price to get it resurfaced and they said to not even resurface it cuz if it gets cut to much i will "loose my pedal" and it will feel sloppy, he said i was better off just skuffin the flywheel myself wiht a wheel to get the burn marks off, what do u guys think? this would save me some money and time because no transmission shops are open on saturday (tomrrow)

I got mine resurfaced at a tranny shop and it feels great. But they ground more off around the outer surface so that it would clamp better. Ask the shop to do that. It only costs $35. I wouldn't put a new clutch on an old surface.

I think that shop contains a serious moron.

Flywheel resurfacing is done on a machining table so that the surface becomes perfectly flat. Hand scuffing will not make it flat, even if you run on the shiny (high) spots. They will not remove much material - these high spots are only a few thousandths tall, and the machine is designed to remove just what is necessary and no more.

I've had mine resurfaced twice now and it still works fine. As for losing clutch pedal pressure, it's not like that since the surface the pressure plate bolts to also gets machined.

Would it be better to shave down my existing flywheel or get a fidanza one for 300 bucks more?

wow...

ok u need a lathe to cut the fly wheel... period.. if its done any other way than its garbage.... the only way u can do it by had is to just ruff up the surface wit 180 grit sand paper.. providing of course that there isnt a noticeable part in the fly wheel that is lower than the rest...
