02 Sensors, 1999 Calif-spec, how many, locations, which triggers P0159/P0158 codes??
I am stumped. I have a 1999 GXE California specs. My check engine light came on and I read the codes with an Autozone code reader. Came out with two codes ...
P0159 02 Sensor CKT slow response (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
P0158 02 Sensor Circuit High Volts (Bank 2 Sensor 2)
Can someone lend a hand???
> Can you confirm that the 99 Calif spec has four O2 sensors? I have heard as much from several sources
> Would someone know where these sensors are located so that I can look under the hood or car and find them? Better yet, would someone have a diagram?
> And, most importantly, would anyone know which one is the "bank 2 sensor 2" sensor and where exactly it is?
I would like to replace it myself but first need to figure out which one needs to be replaced and where it is located. Also, any tips on how to go about replacing this particular sensor?
Thanks, all!!!

if its a 99 you have 4 sensors. bank 2 sensor 2 is the one after the precat on the front header (between the radiator and engine) not the one in the header itself its the next one down the line. you will see it in the 90 degree bend comming under the engine. its a secondary sensor after the pre cat its not as imp as the primary but get it replaced you can get an o2 socket from the auto store but i just used a 21 or 22 mm open end wrench and it cracked right off.

Thanks, Maxima-4dsc. Also, jatan for the excellent diagram.
The bank 2, sensor 2 location was 180 degrees different from what I had guessed. I thought bank 2 might mean sensors to the rear of the car. See from the diagram that bank 2 is near the front and bank 1 is more toward the rear. Also, given my wayward logic, I had thought the bank 2, sensor 2 sensor was not that important and not impacting the air/fuel/etc. mix.
With the new info, more inclined to get replace the sensor sooner rather than la-di-dah around and replacing at my leisure.
By the way, I actually registered 3 codes. P0325 - knock sensor, P0159 - O2 bank 2/sensor 2 slow response, and P0158 - O2 bank2/sensor 2 high voltage. My mechanic replaced the knock sensor earlier today ($60 shipped via ebay, $75 in labor for a 99 calif-spec where the ks is not visible) and reset the computer. We were intending to see if the CEL triggered over the next few days with one or more O2 codes. One theory (by a non-mechanic) is that the faulty ks conceivably could have been impacting the mix and thus triggering the o2 code.
I will wait a week. However, still expecting that the CEL will trigger and that I will need to replace the bank 2 sensor 2. Hmmm. Now thinking that maybe I should replace the bank 2 sensor 1 at the same time -- described as "primary" by Maxima-4dsc.
Best wishes, all.
