how happy are you guys with the factory alarms? i'm debating on wheter the 300 or so for a aftermarket is worth it, after all the factory alarms does come with a lot of features already? what do you guys think?

An aftermarket alarm will not necessarily prevent your car from being stolen. If a thief wants your car, they will get it no matter how you protect it. The smartest thing to do is the "layered protection" approach. Each "layer" is supposed to make it a little more difficult for the thief to steal your car, so the theory is that they will move onto easier targets. It's recommended by all the police and insurance companies. First step is park in a well lit spot, hide your valuables, and lock your doors. Second step is some sort of steering wheel lock. Third step is a theft deterrent system with starter kill. The stock system already has starter kill.
I personally kept the stock alarm unmodified, and added an Autolok 2000 steering wheel lock. It's this huge yellow monstrosity that covers the entire steering wheel, making it much more effective than the club.
