Does anyone have any problems with that setup?

I don't own a 97-99 Max, but I still think GReddy screwed up on their SP2.

I have the 95-96 SP2 on my 96. It fits fine except the bpipe hangs somewhat low, but I haven't scraped it on anything so that is all that matters.

But what I am getting at here is. I believe GReddy prototyped the SP2 on a 95-96 and totally forgot about fitting it to a 97-99. Everytime I see pictures a 97-99 owner has major fitment issues.

What is most interesting and doesn't make any sense to me. The 97-99s have the extra O2, 95-96 does not. Why then did GReddy add the O2 bung to the 95-96 pipe? When I was installing mine I was afraid it wasn't going to fit right. I thought maybe I got a 97-99 SP2 by mistake.

Maybe a 97-99 owner that possibly has a 95-96 SP2 on their car can chime in. But my thinking is even the 95-96 (with the 97-99 O2 bung) will not fit correctly either.

Well see,
I have the 95-96 SP2 in my 98 and I have a few problems.

1 The tip is to far back
2 The o2 Sensor sits way too low.

Thats why I made this post. I read through the forums many times and I have not read anything about those 2 issues, and as far as I know everyone reccomends the 95-96 SP2 even for the 97-99.

I'll post pictures when I get home from work.

I have the ’95-’96 SP2 on my ’97.

I do believe all SP2’s have very low B-pipes. And the O2 sensor on the b-pipe are way too low.

People who get the older model want the tip to end flush with the bumper. Mine is dead even with the bumper. ’97-’99 SP2’s are about 2 ½” longer then the bumper.

No problems at all with the setup. My only complaint is that with a stillen areo kit, the exhaust seems a little recessed in. And the Y-pipe + SP2 is loud.

The pictures, just as I promised

I had to do this so the muffler tip wouldn't make the exhuast cutout any bigger. And if you see in the next picture you can see I have to do it again...

I have a 95-96 SP2 and it hangs even lower, but I haven't scraped it yet. I am p!ssed at Greddy for the stupidity of having the O2 sensor pointed down and the wrong angle that makes the B-pipe hang so low. I need to get it fixed so I can install SFCs and also for my peace of mind.

From what I heard I don't think I am going to touch it, my friend said I could go to the shop and they could weld on a new o2 bung but the chance that they do it with out a leak is slim. And right now thats the last thing that I want.

VQuick - I suggest you put a hose clamp like I did in the second picture but put it on where the hanger is when the B-pipe bends. I think that would raise it up just a little bit.

No one at Greddy recommends the 95-96 for 97-99 Maximas, but some people on the Org found that the 95-96 gives a perfectly flush look on 97-99 Maxes, and that's why they buy the "wrong" catback. Also, the O2 sensor hole on the 95-96 Greddy is pointless on the 95-96 Maxima (which has the rear O2 sensor in the cat, not the B-pipe) but perfect for the 97-99 Maxima rear O2.

Unless the shop has problems welding stainless steel O2 bungs are cake.

How much should it cost?

The O2 sensor isn't perfect becuase its located on the bottom of the pipe. They should have put it on top or the side or something.

Well obviously, I meant that the thread size was perfect. I have no idea what kind of krzhk Greddy engineers were smoking when they designed this catback....

Yeah I am kinda disappointed. I mean I spent 475 to get the SP2 and I know others have spent more. But honestly they should have done a better job.

Totally agree, for the price its truly a dissapointment!

I wonder if the O2 bug is pointed the same way for the '97-'99?

1. i wish i just bought the '97-'99

2. I wish the B-pipe wasnt soo low.

3. I wish the resonator was bigger!!!

agreed it does point down and it looks like the o2 can be easily damaged if you hit the right bump in the road. IT seems like a production problem for these new sp2, when i purchased the old Greedy sys in 98 it didnt have any issues using the 97 99 sys for my 97 . and speaking of a flush fit ,were you refering to the exhaust tip? cause personally i like the tip to extents passed the bumper a bit. IM glad i read this post i was thinking of getting the new sp2, my older Greedy had a hole in it. Now im thinking maybe Cattmann exh.

Well when I come back from vacation next week I shall start calling around to see how much people charge to install another o2 bung...

EDIT: I was also wondering if anyone with a 97-99 with the 97-99 SP2 would chime in with pictures...

What type of rattle do you get? What does it sound like? What part of the pipe does it come from?

Not sure but when I installed my SP2 I did notice that the pipe sits close to the gas tank. the Flanges could be tapping on it.

I still think that sound comes from the Y-Pipe, cuz I had that sound before I got the cat back and the cat.

Ohh and BTW here is a picture of the 95-96 exhuast on a 97. This one sits flush with the bumper...

As far as modifying the 95-96 SP2, I'm not worried about relocating the O2 hole; most shops can do that easily and cheaply.

I am trying to decide the best way to adjust the B-pipe so it doesn't hang so low. I think the easiest thing would be to cut off the front flange (the part that connects to the back of the catalytic converter) and weld a new one on at the proper angle: probably 10 or 15 degrees clockwise on the catback (as you face forward). If you start messing with bending the B-pipe itself, you are going to ruin the nice mandrel-bent cross section and reduce your effective exhaust diamater. I don't think many exhaust shops can mandrel-bend stainless steel. The muffler on my SP2 also seems to be angled counterclockwise, so I think the best solution is changing the flange angle to what it should be. No idea what this will cost; stainless is harder to weld and we'll need to find good exhaust shops that can handle the task. Also, this idea is just based on my judgment and when a shop looks at it they may well have a better idea.

BTW here's how ridiculously low mine hangs:

they sound does come from the y pipe. i have budget y pipe went to my stock exh and still have the noise. and if you like that flush look more power to you. i like when it extents out a little.

damn that is way to low, i can see going over speedbumps would kill the b pipe.
