OK ok.... whats done is done. Iv learned my lesson that i will never do burnouts again wiht on a slipping clutch. out with the old in with the new

5th gen clutch

5th gen clutch pressure plate

Fidanza aluminum flywheel

Pulled the tranny out on sunday and it came out pretty smoothly with a few extra hands. Took off intake, battery, starter, crank sensor, speed sensor, few other sensors, both axles, motor mount and lowered the engine a few inches by putting a jack under the unbolted crossmember and the tranny slid right out. I found out i could have gotten away with only taking out the drivers side axle and there is no need to completly remove the crossmember, just lower it down, and no need at all to remove they y-pipe. I just installed the new clutch, pp, and flywheel this evening and the tranny was in by 8:45, tomrrow just gota torque the bellhousing bolts and put everything else back together. I gota put in some fresh tranny fluid and hopefully i will be breaking the new clutch in tomrrow

I was just wondering, how long does it take to pull out the tranny. Cause I have to swap mine out soon since I have a bad input shaft bearing. I've done struts, calipers, water pumps, alternators. How does changing the clutch compare in terms of difficulty and time?

hey, before you toss out the old disc, can you lay it flat on a table, and stick a penny in a groove (like how you check the tread depth of a tire). You'll probably hafta use macro or portrait setting of the camera for that. I wanna see how much meat u had left on there. Thanx.

That's not the only reason why you shouldn't do burnouts.

clutch is like $200. New front tires is like $300. And dont forget you can blow your cv boots and have to need new axels too. Clutch is least of your worries.
Burnouts probably aren't what caused your clutch to fail, more likely bad driving in general wore it down faster then the burnouts.

I got a stock clutch cheap on discount up at work and it made a total of 39 1/4 passes before it started slipping, and I heated the tires up real nice in 2nd gear every pass- but yours probably wasn't brand new either, haha.

hey at least we dont have Evo's or STi's, my friends with them learned real quick to not do **** like that. Not much burning out but dropping the clutch at 6k is not my idea of awesome.

HMMM... how can a burn outs wear your clutch like that? Maybe i'm not understanding what a burn out is.... But if you accelerate super hard (and even if you, hypothetically, have the handbrake applied) as long as you've disengaged the clutch, whats the problem?

i use to do alot of burnouts in my maxima when i was 16-17. I pulled my clutch 2 weeks ago cuz my tranny diff bearing went and changed the clutch while i was at it. 290,000kms (180,000miles) and i still could have got another 30,000kms out of it. Replaced it for a 5th gen clutch and pp and im lovin it! for those who say burnouts are stupid bla bla bla....enjoy life, its to short.

accelerating hard is okay... (i mean it wears things but wont kill)

now its hard to accelerate wiht the handbrake applied.. and even harded to accelerate with the clutch disengaged...

Burnout:

handbreak applied (or not) + rev up high + engaging clutch = tirespin, smoke, burning rubber smell (burnout)

Just a quick question for those with 5th gen clutches.

Did you guys go with the 240mm or 250mm pressure plate?
I know that the 4th gens have 240mm ones, but read that the 250mm ones were ok too. Is this true?

I'll probably be ordering the parts soon.
These are the part numbers that I have for the 5th gen clutch parts.
Are these correct? Thanks!

Release bearing: 30502-41U20
Clutch disk: 30100-2Y904
Pressure plate:
30210-89F00 (all first production date A33's until November 2000 - 240mm 635 kg clamping force)
30210-2Y920 (11/2000 to the end of A33A build - 250mm 750 kg clamping force)

I think the oem 4th gen has 580 kg clamping force.
