sell it or not
sell it or not
my max i driving me crazy. every month i have to fix something or replace it.
now my tranny is f..ed. i dont have any more money to repair it.
its 99 gle converted to 5 spd with mods (injen intake, y pipe, greddy sp2, tokico illuminas, eibach springs, fidanza flywheel, clear corners, 300zx brake calipers)
should i sell it like it is or go back to stock (including going back to auto) and than sell it, or just trade in like it is for manual nissan (sentra ser, maxima 02-03 or 3.5 altima)
thanks for advice

hey mike! my car is driving me nuts too. the only reason i haven't really sold it yet is because i'm not in a solid enough financial spot to sell it and get something good. i've been thinking about getting a gs400 after the maxima and if i wait out the next 6 months or so and pay off my credit cards, then i can get the GS. if i sell now i'd have a hard time affording a sentra.
my advice is that you should go back to stock excluding the trans swap, get it running pretty okay and sell it. no one is going to know that it was a conversion unless the know what to look for in the VIN, so I wouldn't worry about swapping transmissions again. a car with mods is always worth less than stock (unless they are extremely unique mods or a motivated buyer), so returning to stock will restore some value, and once you sell the mods you'll have a little cash to spare.
as for what to buy as a replacement, it depends on your money situation. i would not buy another nissan at the moment unless it was new or had a lot of warranty remaining. if it's old enough to have decent build quality the fact that it's that old far outweighs how well it was put together. if it's new enough that it would seem likely to hold up well, it's a US built car that will likely have a number of problems.
that's my two cents, for what it's worth

return to stock... 99 maxes go about 7500-8000 bucks dependin on mileage in NJ..idk about chicago...
sell the parts ... (injen intake, y pipe, greddy sp2, tokico illuminas, eibach springs, fidanza flywheel, clear corners, 300zx brake calipers ) will be worth a lot if u sell them on ebay or here...then lease a new max

Stick with it !!!
You put all that money into a 5spd swap, which I would NEVER do just because all of the potential problems including trans, mounting the clutch pedal equipment properly, ECU, sensors, blah blah blah. In other words, Su*k it up, Man Up, and get the thing driveable and stop whinning
Youve gone too far to back out

yeah man in the end.. you've gone too far to not finish. I fix things on the max a lot too, its just getting older thats all. As soon as most of the small problem parts are replaced it should be pretty good. My '98 is running pretty hardcore after replacing quite a bit of stuff and now I'm happy.
i would agree with one of the posts and say, return everything to stock, and just keep the car. well i would because im not in a good position since i just bought my car and i still haev 1500 left to pay off. plus with school coming up books are going to take a chunk out of my account. i love my car but thats because i dont have any problems with it. thats just my opinion. gl with w/e you want you do.

Todays philosophy lesson is . . . to always remain in a constant state of departure while constantly arriving.
I'm not going to buy it, I already have too many Max's to work on, and price isnt in my favor.

If you dont mind having monthly payments then you could trade in the car and get something else but Dont know how much you'll get on trade in value when you tow your car up to the dealership and tell them you want to trade it.
Best thing to do would be part out the mods (they will sell quick), return the car to stock, pick up a 4th gen tranny (they're pretty cheap) install and then trade in your car, and pick up a 5.5th gen or whatever.
It will be hard to sell you car with all your mods and get a good amount of money for it.
:If it were me I'd fix it and keep it moving, you'd have a lot of work to do the part it out and return to stock.
