Your next question will probably be how do i reset the ecu? Well you can find that in the stickies or you get just unplug your battery over night and that should reset it.

Get a screwdriver and just reset it.

No, for 99 MAX, the screw on ECU is quite different. It makes difficult turning. The best and easiest way is using an OBD2 scanner to reset ECU.

He didn't specify if he has a 99.

But, my brother has a 99 and we've done it a few times.
Only difference is you need a small phillips screwdriver instead.
Not that hard. Just take it easy when turning the screw.

But the label on the ECU screw hole reads a little bit wierd. It reads "idle speed control" or something. I tried to pull the code by turning the screw before, but I gave it up instead of using an OBD2 scanner. Just my $.02.

Just leave it alone and it will reset itself after a few days. It just needs to check to make sure the sensor is good, then it will reset.

WARNING: be damn careful with that screw as to not overturn it, it is NOT durable in the least if you over tighten even a small amount a few times.

Help with CEL codes

My CEL came on and the codes were 03 04 (Knock Sensor) and 10 03 (Park/Neutral Position Switch). The only problem is I have a 99 SE with a 5 speed. I reset the codes and the same ones came back after about 300 miles. Obviously these codes are wrong as I am not having any problem with knocking and I don't have an automatic transmission. Any suggestions? I will have to have the light off to pass inspection.

5 Speeds have a Park/Neutral position switch too. It's also a back up lamp switch.
And, a bad KS does not cause knocking.

But if the battery gets unplugged, then the presets for the stereo gets messed up, as does the temp if equipped with auto climate control.

My CEL comes on and off intermittenly and the only code it throws is 5-5 which means nothing is wrong. BUT I can free-spin the screw on my ECU (previous owners fault) it never really "stops." Does anyone know if my ECU is beyond repair?
