Drivetrain clunk

I asked this question b4 and got no response, so let me try again without the story.
Should the halfshafts have ANY play in them (left to right) at all when the car is on the ground?
Also, what can cause the axle nut (that holds the hub/bearing in) to loosen?

Thanks

I got about 0.5mm of play in mine. Don't know if that's good or bad but I'm not doing anything about it just yet.

Vibration will cause the nut to loosen. But if it's torqued on right and you have the cotter pin and castle washer it should never loosen.

OK. That's about what I get too, and I did make sure the nut was torqued and the cotter pin and washer is good.
SO, the clunk I hear now occurs mostly when I'm taking off from a standstill. Unlike before where there was a constant knocking when applying the brakes (brakes are FINE), that went away after I torqued the axle nut. I'm thinking now I may have an LCA on way out. Any thoughts on that? I have poly bushings ready to go in as part of my ever impending suspension rebuild, but hard times lately have put everything on hold.
